Summoning Trap

Instant — Trap MV 6

Tracked across real Commander games played through TurnZero HQ.

What it does

If a creature spell you cast this turn was countered by a spell or ability an opponent controlled, you may pay 0 rather than pay this spell's mana cost.

Look at the top seven cards of your library. You may put a creature card from among them onto the battlefield. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.

Rulings

4 official rulings, in the order Wizards published them.

  • 2009-10-01

Casting a Trap by paying its alternative cost doesn't change its mana cost or mana value. The only difference is the cost you actually pay.

  • 2009-10-01

Effects that increase or reduce the cost to cast a Trap will apply to whichever cost you chose to pay.

  • 2009-10-01

You may ignore a Trap's alternative cost condition and simply cast it for its normal mana cost. This is true even if its alternative cost condition has been met.

  • 2009-10-01

If there are seven or fewer cards in your library, you'll look at all of them.

Rulings are Wizards of the Coast's own, mirrored from Scryfall and refreshed nightly.

Every version of Summoning Trap

2 printings, newest first. Prices are the market figures Scryfall publishes, refreshed nightly. A printing with no figure shows a dash rather than a zero, because Scryfall publishes none for some of them. Click a card's art to chart that version's price above.

Prices from Scryfall, which tracks the TCGplayer and Cardmarket markets. They move daily and are a guide rather than a quote. Search TCGplayer for Summoning Trap. It runs a name search across every version, which covers the printings TCGplayer publishes no direct link to.

Aggregated from Commander games tracked in TurnZero HQ. Every figure counts decks and games only. No individual deck list, player or playgroup is identified. Win rates are withheld below 5 completed games, where the sample is too small to mean anything.
