What it does
(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter. Sacrifice after III.)
I — Recruit. (Draw a card, then discard a card. If you discarded a nonland card, create a 1/1 white Human Soldier creature token.)
II — Return target creature card with mana value 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
III — Put a +1/+1 counter on up to one target creature.
Rulings
One official ruling, as Wizards published it.
- 2026-06-29
Once a spell or ability that causes you to recruit begins to resolve, no player may take any other actions until it's done. Any responses made to the spell or ability must be made before you draw, discard, and potentially create a token.
Rulings are Wizards of the Coast's own, mirrored from Scryfall and refreshed nightly.

Prices from Scryfall, which tracks the TCGplayer and Cardmarket markets. They move daily and are a guide rather than a quote. Search TCGplayer for The Mountain-king's Return. It runs a name search across every version, which covers the printings TCGplayer publishes no direct link to.
Aggregated from Commander games tracked in TurnZero HQ. Every figure counts decks and games only. No individual deck list, player or playgroup is identified. Win rates are withheld below 5 completed games, where the sample is too small to mean anything.
