Dark Tutelage card art

Dark Tutelage

Enchantment MV 3

Tracked across real Commander games played through TurnZero HQ.

What it does

At the beginning of your upkeep, reveal the top card of your library and put that card into your hand. You lose life equal to its mana value.

Rulings

3 official rulings, in the order Wizards published them.

  • 2010-08-15

The mana value of the revealed card is determined solely by the mana symbols printed in its upper right corner. The mana value is the total amount of mana in that cost, regardless of color. For example, a card with mana cost 3 has mana value 5.

  • 2010-08-15

If the mana cost of the revealed card includes X, X is considered to be 0.

  • 2010-08-15

If the revealed card has no mana symbols in its upper right corner (because it's a land card, for example), its mana value is 0.

Rulings are Wizards of the Coast's own, mirrored from Scryfall and refreshed nightly.

Every version of Dark Tutelage

2 printings, newest first. Prices are the market figures Scryfall publishes, refreshed nightly. A printing with no figure shows a dash rather than a zero, because Scryfall publishes none for some of them.

Prices from Scryfall, which tracks the TCGplayer and Cardmarket markets. They move daily and are a guide rather than a quote. Search TCGplayer for Dark Tutelage. It runs a name search across every version, which covers the printings TCGplayer publishes no direct link to.

Aggregated from Commander games tracked in TurnZero HQ. Every figure counts decks and games only. No individual deck list, player or playgroup is identified. Win rates are withheld below 5 completed games, where the sample is too small to mean anything.
