Esoteric Duplicator card art

Esoteric Duplicator

Artifact — Clue MV 3

Tracked across real Commander games played through TurnZero HQ.

What it does

Whenever you sacrifice this artifact or another artifact, you may pay 2. If you do, at the beginning of the next end step, create a token that's a copy of that artifact.

2, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw a card.

Rulings

5 official rulings, in the order Wizards published them.

  • 2024-04-12

The token copies exactly what was printed on the original artifact and nothing else (unless that artifact was copying something else or was a token; see below). It doesn’t copy whether that artifact was tapped or untapped, whether it had any counters on it or Auras and Equipment attached to it, or any non-copy effects that changed its power, toughness, types, color, and so on.

  • 2024-04-12

If the copied artifact was copying something else when it was last on the battlefield, then the token enters the battlefield as whatever that artifact copied.

  • 2024-04-12

Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied artifact will trigger when the token enters the battlefield. Any “as [this artifact] enters the battlefield” or “[this artifact] enters the battlefield with” abilities of the copied artifact will also work.

  • 2024-04-12

If the copied artifact was a token, the token that’s created copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that created that token.

  • 2024-04-12

If the copied artifact had X in its mana cost, X is 0.

3 printings, newest first. Prices are the market figures Scryfall publishes, refreshed nightly — a printing with no figure shows a dash rather than a zero, because Scryfall genuinely publishes none for some of them.

Prices from Scryfall, which tracks the TCGplayer and Cardmarket markets. They move daily and are a guide rather than a quote. Search TCGplayer for Esoteric Duplicator — a name search across every version, for the printings TCGplayer publishes no direct link to.

Aggregated from Commander games tracked in TurnZero HQ. Every figure counts decks and games only — no individual deck list, player or playgroup is identified. Win rates are withheld below 5 completed games, where the sample is too small to mean anything.
