Nevermore card art

Nevermore

Enchantment MV 3

Tracked across real Commander games played through TurnZero HQ.

What it does

As this enchantment enters, choose a nonland card name.

Spells with the chosen name can't be cast.

Rulings

6 official rulings, in the order Wizards published them.

  • 2011-09-22

You can name either half of a split card, but not both. If you do so, that half (and both halves, if the split card has fuse) can't be cast. The other half is unaffected.

  • 2011-09-22

The named card can be cast again once Nevermore leaves the battlefield.

  • 2011-09-22

Spells with the chosen name that somehow happen to already be on the stack when Nevermore enters are not affected by Nevermore's ability.

  • 2011-09-22

Although the named card can't be cast, it can still be put onto the battlefield by a spell or ability (if it's a permanent card).

  • 2011-09-22

No one can cast spells or activate abilities between the time a card is named and the time that Nevermore's ability starts to work.

  • 2021-03-19

If you name one of the faces of a modal double-faced card, players may still play the face you didn't name. (Players can never cast the back face of a transforming double-faced card)

Rulings are Wizards of the Coast's own, mirrored from Scryfall and refreshed nightly.

Every version of Nevermore

1 printing, newest first. Prices are the market figures Scryfall publishes, refreshed nightly. A printing with no figure shows a dash rather than a zero, because Scryfall publishes none for some of them.

Prices from Scryfall, which tracks the TCGplayer and Cardmarket markets. They move daily and are a guide rather than a quote. Search TCGplayer for Nevermore. It runs a name search across every version, which covers the printings TCGplayer publishes no direct link to.

Aggregated from Commander games tracked in TurnZero HQ. Every figure counts decks and games only. No individual deck list, player or playgroup is identified. Win rates are withheld below 5 completed games, where the sample is too small to mean anything.
