Sheriff of Safe Passage

Creature — Human Knight MV 3

Tracked across real Commander games played through TurnZero HQ.

What it does

This creature enters with a +1/+1 counter on it plus an additional +1/+1 counter on it for each other creature you control.

Plot 1 (You may pay {1}{W} and exile this card from your hand. Cast it as a sorcery on a later turn without paying its mana cost. Plot only as a sorcery.)

Rulings

6 official rulings, in the order Wizards published them.

Plot abilities are written “Plot [cost],” which means “Any time you have priority during your main phase while the stack is empty, you may pay [cost] and exile this card from your hand. It becomes plotted.”

  • 2024-04-12

If a plotted card has X in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.

  • 2024-04-12

Exiling a card using its plot ability is a special action. Once you announce you’re taking that action, no other player can respond by trying to remove that card from your hand.

  • 2024-04-12

If you’re casting a plotted card from exile without paying its mana cost, you can’t choose to cast it for any other alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs, such as kicker costs. If the plotted card has any mandatory additional costs, those must still be paid to cast the spell.

  • 2024-04-12

If Sheriff of Safe Passage enters the battlefield under your control at the same time as one or more other creatures, it doesn’t take those creatures into consideration when determining how many +1/+1 counters it enters the battlefield with.

  • 2024-04-12

You can’t cast a plotted card on the same turn it became plotted. On any future turn, you may cast that card from exile without paying its mana cost during your main phase while the stack is empty.

Every version of Sheriff of Safe Passage

1 printing, newest first. Prices are the market figures Scryfall publishes, refreshed nightly. A printing with no figure shows a dash rather than a zero, because Scryfall publishes none for some of them.

Prices from Scryfall, which tracks the TCGplayer and Cardmarket markets. They move daily and are a guide rather than a quote. Search TCGplayer for Sheriff of Safe Passage. It runs a name search across every version, which covers the printings TCGplayer publishes no direct link to.

Aggregated from Commander games tracked in TurnZero HQ. Every figure counts decks and games only. No individual deck list, player or playgroup is identified. Win rates are withheld below 5 completed games, where the sample is too small to mean anything.
