What it does

Whenever a creature with power 1 or less is put into your graveyard from the battlefield, you may return that card to the battlefield at the beginning of the next end step if Shirei is still on the battlefield.

Rulings

4 official rulings, in the order Wizards published them.

  • 2018-12-07

Shirei's ability only triggers if the creature's power immediately before leaving the battlefield is 1 or less, regardless of its power in your graveyard.

  • 2018-12-07

Shirei's ability triggers if a creature you own with power 1 or less dies under another player's control.

  • 2018-12-07

If Shirei leaves the battlefield and returns to the battlefield after a creature with power 1 or less is put into your graveyard, Shirei is considered a new object. The delayed triggered ability won't return the creature to the battlefield.

Shirei's ability can't return any creatures that died before Shirei entered the battlefield.

Every version of Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker

4 printings, newest first. Prices are the market figures Scryfall publishes, refreshed nightly. A printing with no figure shows a dash rather than a zero, because Scryfall publishes none for some of them. Click a card's art to chart that version's price above.

Prices from Scryfall, which tracks the TCGplayer and Cardmarket markets. They move daily and are a guide rather than a quote. Search TCGplayer for Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker. It runs a name search across every version, which covers the printings TCGplayer publishes no direct link to.

Aggregated from Commander games tracked in TurnZero HQ. Every figure counts decks and games only. No individual deck list, player or playgroup is identified. Win rates are withheld below 5 completed games, where the sample is too small to mean anything.
