Ghalta the Immovable ↗

A {8}{W} 0/7 that costs {X} less, where X is the greatest toughness among your creatures. Your creatures can attack as though they didn't have defender, and any creature with toughness greater than its power deals combat damage equal to its toughness.

Strategies it goes well with

  • Defenders on offense. Walls are cheap, they block well early, and they usually carry high toughness. Ghalta lets them attack and makes that toughness their damage, so the same creatures that held the ground become the clock.
  • High-toughness creatures without defender. Indomitable Ancients and Guardian Lions don't need the defender clause at all. Their toughness exceeds their power, so they hit for 10 and 6 while Ghalta is out.
  • Early blockers, then the payoff. A white deck full of 0/4 and 1/6 bodies is hard to attack into for the first several turns, and each of those bodies also lowers Ghalta's cost.

How it does in Commander

As the commander

As a mono-white commander it leads a defender and high-toughness deck, the same idea Arcades, the Strategist leads in three colors. The tradeoff is that Ghalta draws no cards, so the deck needs card advantage from creatures like Wall of Omens. Each recast from the command zone adds tax to the generic part of the cost, which the discount can also absorb.

In the 99

In the 99 it belongs in a white deck that already runs several walls. Elsewhere it's a 9-mana 0/7 whose discount depends on a board you don't have, so it's a poor include outside that plan.

Formats it's strong in

  • White defender decks. Every wall in the deck becomes an attacker that hits for its toughness, and a single 1/6 on the battlefield brings Ghalta down to {2}{W}.
  • Slower, creature-combat pods. Tables that trade in combat give a wall deck time to build a board, and high-toughness creatures survive most damage-based removal.

Formats it's weak in

  • Decks with few high-toughness creatures. Without a big-toughness body on the battlefield, the discount is small and Ghalta costs close to its full nine mana.
  • Pods heavy on flying and board wipes. A wall deck commits many creatures to the battlefield, so one wipe sets it back, and ground walls can't block fliers coming the other way.

Is it worth the price?

Ghalta the Immovable is a Reality Fracture uncommon, and uncommons from a new set are usually inexpensive. The set releases October 2, 2026, so early prices are still settling, but there is little reason to expect it to cost much.

Frequently asked questions

How is Ghalta the Immovable different from Ghalta the Unstoppable?

It is the white Echo variant of the green original. Ghalta the Unstoppable is an 8/8 trampler whose discount reads the greatest power among your creatures. Ghalta the Immovable is a 0/7 whose discount reads toughness, and instead of trample it lets defenders attack and makes high-toughness creatures deal damage equal to their toughness. The names differ, so you can control both at once.

How cheap can Ghalta the Immovable get?

The discount only reduces the generic part of the cost, so the floor is {W}. Controlling Indomitable Ancients, a 2/10, takes off all eight generic. A 0/4 Wall of Omens brings it to {4}{W}.

Does Ghalta the Immovable attack for 7?

Yes. Its own toughness of 7 is greater than its power of 0, so it assigns 7 combat damage. It has no trample, haste or evasion, so it needs a turn to lose summoning sickness and can be chump blocked.
