A core set, and what that means
Core Set 2020 is a core set, which means the useful question is not what it introduced but what it contains and who it is aimed at. Core sets deliberately carry no new mechanics: they run on evergreen keywords so a new player can learn the game from them without also learning a gimmick.
What it contains is a broad slice of Magic at every rarity, a planeswalker cycle led by Chandra, and enough removal and creatures at common to make a clean Limited format. The green and red end is built on Elementals, which is the closest the set comes to a build-around.
Who it is for is two audiences at once, which is the tension every core set lives with. It has to be a first set for someone learning to draft, and it has to print reprints and staples that a Standard deck actually wants. M20 leaned harder on the second than most.
Where You Can Play It
Core Set 2020 shipped under a single code and has left Standard, which is the only format it left.
Not Standard-legal. Standard only ever holds the last few years of sets, so everything this old has long since left it. These cards are still playable in Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage and Commander. Commons from any set are Pauper-legal; that isn't listed per set here.

A full ten-pair format, and a deliberately straightforward one. There is no mechanic to master first, so the format rewards curve, removal and reading signals.

Elementals anchor the red-green end and are the set's clearest build-around. The rest of the pairs run on evergreen themes: flyers in blue-white, sacrifice in black-red, lifegain in white-black.
