Every card a creature

What this set is

Legions is the only Magic expansion in which every card is a creature: all 145 of them. It continues Onslaught's creature-type themes and its morph mechanic, so a lot of those creatures can be cast face down.

It added two creature keywords, amplify and provoke. Its most famous card is Akroma, Angel of Wrath, a six-power angel with a long list of keywords, and it also printed Phage the Untouchable, which wins the game when it deals combat damage to a player.

For Commander, Seedborn Muse (untap your permanents on every player's untap step) and Windborn Muse are the cards still in wide use, along with tribal support such as Wirewood Channeler and Timberwatch Elf.

Every mechanic in Legions

New

Amplify

As the creature enters, reveal any number of cards from your hand that share a creature type with it. It enters with that many +1/+1 counters times the amplify number.

New

Provoke

When this creature attacks, you may have target creature the defending player controls untap and block it if able. It drags a chosen blocker into combat.

Returning

Morph

Back from Onslaught: cast it face down as a 2/2 for {3}, and turn it face up for its morph cost.

Where You Can Play It

Format legality

Legions is a single code, and nothing from it is banned in any eternal format.

Not Standard-legal, and not Modern-legal as a set: Modern starts at Eighth Edition (July 2003). A card from here that was reprinted in a later Modern-legal set is Modern-legal in this printing too, because legality follows the card, not the printing. None of its cards is banned or restricted in Legacy, Vintage or Commander. It is also legal in Premodern, the community format built on Fourth Edition through Scourge. Commons from any set are Pauper-legal; that isn't listed per set here.

Commanders

FAQ

Common questions

Where can I play Legions cards?

In Legacy, Vintage and Commander, minus the cards each format bans. Legions is too old for Standard, Pioneer or Modern as a set, though any card that was later reprinted in a Modern-legal set is Modern-legal in every printing. It is also legal in Premodern, a community format built on Fourth Edition through Scourge.

Is every card in Legions a creature?

Yes. All 145 cards are creatures.

Is Seedborn Muse from Legions?

Yes. It untaps your permanents during every other player's untap step, and it is legal in Commander.

Playing Legions in Commander?

TurnZero HQ keeps deck records, MMR, and moments for every Commander night, so you can see which new cards are actually earning their slot.
