Denzilore Fatehold ↗

A four-mana 3/4 Elder Sphinx with flash and flying. Whenever you scry or surveil, he puts a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control, with no once-per-turn limit.

Strategies it goes well with

  • Cheap scry and surveil spells. Opt and Consider cost one mana, draw a card and each add a counter to every creature you control. A deck with ten or more of these turns him into a repeatable anthem.
  • Go wide, then grow. The trigger scales with the number of creatures you control. Cadet tokens and other small creatures turn each scry into several counters at once.
  • Repeatable surveil. Permanents that surveil every turn, such as Search for Azcanta, give you a trigger each upkeep without spending a card.

How it does in Commander

As the commander

As the commander, he leads a white-blue deck built on cheap cantrips and small creatures. Four mana with flash is easy to cast on curve, and a 3/4 flier blocks well while the counters build. He needs creatures already on the board to matter, so a hand of only cantrips and no bodies is slow.

In the 99

In another white-blue deck he fits anywhere that already scries or surveils several times a turn cycle. In a counters deck he works as a second anthem engine; without scry or surveil he's a 3/4 flash flier.

Formats it's strong in

  • White-blue cantrip and flier decks. Every one-mana scry or surveil spell grows the whole team, and fliers make the counters hard to block.
  • +1/+1 counter decks. Proliferate and counter doublers multiply what each trigger already gives you.

Formats it's weak in

  • Decks with few creatures. A control deck with three creatures gets little from a counter on each creature you control.
  • Decks without scry or surveil. Without a steady supply of scry and surveil effects, he has no trigger and is a four-mana 3/4.

Is it worth the price?

Denzilore is a mythic from the Reality Fracture main set, released October 2, 2026, so early prices are still settling and he has no reprints yet. He's a reasonable pickup if you are building white-blue counters or cantrips; there is no rush otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

Does Denzilore Fatehold trigger more than once a turn?

Yes. His ability has no once-each-turn clause, so every scry or surveil puts a counter on each creature you control. That is the difference between him and Prudent Fateseer, which only triggers once each turn.

Does Denzilore Fatehold put a counter on himself?

Yes. He says each creature you control, and he is one of them. Tokens you control get a counter too.

Why does Denzilore Fatehold have flash?

Flash lets you cast him at the end of an opponent's turn and keep mana up for instant-speed scry and surveil spells. It also gives sorcery-speed removal fewer chances to hit him before your turn.
