Uldaros Theorix ↗

A five-mana 5/5 flying Elder Sphinx. When you cast him, he exiles up to one nonland card of each card type from your graveyard, copies them, and lets you cast copies with a total mana value of 6 or less for free.

Strategies it goes well with

  • Fill the graveyard with cheap, different card types. The trigger rewards variety, not volume. A cheap instant, a cheap sorcery, a cheap enchantment and a cheap artifact in the graveyard give you four free spells inside the 6 mana value cap.
  • Self-mill. Stitcher's Supplier and Thought Scour put cards into the graveyard for one mana each, which sets up the trigger before you cast him on turn five.
  • Recasting as a commander. Each time he returns to the command zone and you cast him again, he copies a new set of cards. Commander tax makes each recast more expensive, so it works best when your graveyard has refilled in between.

How it does in Commander

As the commander

As the commander, he leads a blue-black graveyard value deck that wants low-cost spells of several card types. He is a 5/5 flier for five, so he also attacks well once the trigger has resolved. The weakness is that the trigger needs a graveyard to work with, and graveyard hate before you cast him leaves a vanilla flier.

In the 99

In another blue-black deck he's a strong five-drop if the deck already puts cheap spells in the graveyard. In a reanimator deck he's weaker than he looks, because putting him onto the battlefield without casting him skips the trigger.

Formats it's strong in

  • Blue-black self-mill and spells decks. Decks that already bin cheap instants and sorceries get several free spells and a 5/5 flier for one card.
  • Brawl and Standard Brawl. He's legal in Standard as a main-set card, so he can lead a Brawl deck as well as a Commander deck.

Formats it's weak in

  • Reanimator decks. Entomb-and-reanimate lines put him onto the battlefield without casting him, which skips the only ability he has besides flying.
  • Decks with expensive spells. The 6 mana value cap means a graveyard full of five- and six-drops gives you one free spell at most.

Is it worth the price?

Uldaros is a mythic from the Reality Fracture main set, released October 2, 2026, and early prices are still settling. He has not been reprinted. If you only want him for the 99, waiting a few weeks for prices to settle costs you little.

Frequently asked questions

Does Uldaros Theorix trigger if he is reanimated or flickered?

No. The ability only triggers if you cast him, so reanimation, flicker effects and polymorph effects that put him onto the battlefield do nothing. Casting him from the command zone does count, so every recast as a commander gets the trigger.

What happens to permanents cast with Uldaros Theorix?

They become tokens, as the reminder text says. A copied artifact, creature or enchantment stays on the battlefield as a token, and the original card is already in exile.

How many spells can Uldaros Theorix cast?

Up to one copy of each card type he exiled, as long as the total mana value of the spells you cast is 6 or less. A two-mana sorcery, a three-mana enchantment and a one-mana instant all fit together.
