The last old-frame core set
Seventh Edition is the seventh core set and the last to use the original card frame; Eighth Edition moved to the modern frame two years later. It has 350 cards, 335 different, and the catalog also lists a premium foil version of every one of them.
It swapped 177 cards in and 177 out compared with Classic Sixth Edition, keeping the core of Birds of Paradise, Llanowar Elves, Counterspell, City of Brass and the Ice Age painlands.
It is a common source of older reprints in white border, and none of its cards is on the Reserved List or any eternal ban list.
Where You Can Play It
Seventh Edition is a single code. It predates Modern's start, so its cards are eternal-format cards unless reprinted later.
Not Standard-legal, and not Modern-legal as a set: Modern starts at Eighth Edition (July 2003). A card from here that was reprinted in a later Modern-legal set is Modern-legal in this printing too, because legality follows the card, not the printing. None of its cards is banned or restricted in Legacy, Vintage or Commander. It is also legal in Premodern, the community format built on Fourth Edition through Scourge. Commons from any set are Pauper-legal; that isn't listed per set here.
Boosters, precons and singles from Seventh Edition are on TCGplayer.
FAQ
