Mirage, continued
Visions is the small second set of the Mirage block, continuing the story on Jamuraa. It has 167 cards, no new keywords and, unusually for its era, no legendary creatures, so Commander players come to it for spells rather than commanders.
Those spells are strong. Vampiric Tutor finishes the cycle of instant tutors Mirage started and is the most played of them. Natural Order trades a green creature for any green creature from your library, Necromancy is a reanimation spell you can cast at instant speed, and Teferi's Puzzle Box makes every player replace their hand each draw step.
Quirion Ranger and Goblin Recruiter are here too. 40 cards are on the Reserved List.
Where You Can Play It
Visions is a single code with two Legacy bans and nothing banned in Commander.
Not Standard-legal, and not Modern-legal as a set: Modern starts at Eighth Edition (July 2003). A card from here that was reprinted in a later Modern-legal set is Modern-legal in this printing too, because legality follows the card, not the printing. Legacy bans Vampiric Tutor and Goblin Recruiter, and Vintage restricts Vampiric Tutor. Nothing is banned in Commander. It is also legal in Premodern, the community format built on Fourth Edition through Scourge. Commons from any set are Pauper-legal; that isn't listed per set here.
Boosters, precons and singles from Visions are on TCGplayer.
FAQ
In Legacy, Vintage and Commander, minus the cards each format bans. Visions is too old for Standard, Pioneer or Modern as a set, though any card that was later reprinted in a Modern-legal set is Modern-legal in every printing. It is also legal in Premodern, a community format built on Fourth Edition through Scourge.
Yes. It is banned in Legacy and restricted in Vintage, but legal in Commander.
No. It is one of the few sets of its era without any, so it has no commanders of its own.
All card names, art, and mechanics belong to Wizards of the Coast. Visions released on Feb 3, 1997; details reflect the set as published. Sources: Wizards of the Coast set pages and release notes, Draftsim, Untapped.gg.
