BlockZendikar, set two of three

The second Zendikar set

What this set is

Worldwake is the small second set of the Zendikar block, drafted with Zendikar and built on the same idea: lands matter. Landfall is back on sixteen cards, and the set's own addition, multikicker, lets you pay a kicker cost as many times as you like.

The manlands are what Constructed players remember. Celestial Colonnade, Creeping Tar Pit, Lavaclaw Reaches, Raging Ravine and Stirring Wildwood are enemy-colored dual lands that turn into creatures, and they are still played in Modern.

It is also the set of Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Stoneforge Mystic, two cards that shaped Standard enough to be banned there in 2011. Both are legal in Modern today. Commander players know it for Bojuka Bog, Avenger of Zendikar and Everflowing Chalice.

Themes

Every mechanic in Worldwake

New

Multikicker

An optional additional cost you can pay any number of times, with the effect scaling per payment. Comet Storm picks one more target for each kick, so it grows with all the mana Zendikar gives you.

Returning

Landfall

Triggers whenever a land enters under your control. Back from Zendikar on sixteen cards, including Avenger of Zendikar.

New

Manlands

Not a keyword: a cycle of five enemy-colored dual lands that can become creatures until end of turn. They are hard to remove at sorcery speed, which is why they lasted in Constructed.

Returning

Allies

The Ally creature type and its enters triggers return from Zendikar, with more Allies for the decks the first set started.

Where You Can Play It

Format legality

Worldwake shipped under a single code. It predates Pioneer, so the set is legal in Modern and the eternal formats, with one Modern ban.

Not Standard-legal; Standard only ever holds the last few years of sets. Worldwake cards are playable in Modern, Legacy, Vintage and Commander. Eye of Ugin is banned in Modern, and Lodestone Golem is restricted in Vintage. Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Stoneforge Mystic are both Modern-legal. Commons from any set are Pauper-legal; that isn't listed per set here.

Limited

The draft format

Drafted as Worldwake, Zendikar, Zendikar. It kept the first set's speed and added multikicker as a way to use the extra lands late.

Landfall and multikicker

Aggro with a late game

The Zendikar plan of playing a land and attacking, now with multikicker spells that scale with every land you kept drawing.

Boosters, precons and singles from Worldwake are on TCGplayer.
