Two rares a pack, all reprints
Double Masters 2022 is a reprint set with one structural gimmick: every draft booster holds two rares or mythics plus two foils, rather than the usual one. That doubles the power level of a draft and is the whole reason the format plays differently from a normal set.
There are no new cards and no new mechanics. What it is for is reprint access, which means the useful question about any card in it is not "is 2X2 legal" but "where was this card already legal", because a reprint here does not change that.
Themes
No new mechanics
Every card is a reprint, so nothing is introduced. The mechanics you meet are whatever the reprinted cards already had, drawn from across Magic's history.
Two rares per pack
The set's one structural change. Two rares or mythics and two foils in every draft booster, which makes for a far higher-powered Limited format than a standard expansion.
Where You Can Play It
Double Masters 2022 is the case where per-card legality matters more than per-set. It is a reprint set, so there is nothing to grant.
Every card is a reprint, and a reprint doesn't change legality: each card is legal exactly where it already was. Many of these cards are not Standard-, Pioneer- or Modern-legal, and being in 2X2 does not make them so.
Standard was never in play for this set, so no rotation has ever touched it. Nothing here leaves Modern, Legacy, Vintage or Commander either. Commons from any set are Pauper-legal; that isn't listed per set here.
Limited
Two rares a pack means the format is decided by bombs far more often than by archetype. The usual advice about staying open and reading signals matters less here than simply taking the most powerful card.
Power over synergy
High-powered Limited
With twice the rares, most games are settled by the strongest individual cards rather than by a well-assembled two-color plan. Draft accordingly.
FAQ
The question does not quite apply. Every card in it is a reprint, and a reprint does not change legality: each card stays legal exactly where it already was. Many of them are not Standard-, Pioneer- or Modern-legal, and appearing in 2X2 does not make them so.
