Saheeli, Jewel of Avishkar gives your Thopters haste, and whenever you cast a noncreature spell she makes a 1/1 Thopter with flying. So every cantrip, mana rock and Treasure spell you cast is also a flier that can attack the turn it arrives.

The deck is built to cast as many noncreature spells as it can: 50 of its 63 nonland cards besides Saheeli. Brainstorm, Ponder, Preordain, Mishra's Bauble and Chromatic Star cost one mana or less and replace themselves, so a turn with four mana can be four Thopters and four new cards. Efficient Construction and Sai, Master Thopterist add a second Thopter for each artifact you cast, Third Path Iconoclast adds a Soldier for every noncreature spell, and Storm-Kiln Artist turns each instant and sorcery into a Treasure for the next one. Shared Animosity gives each attacking Thopter +1/+0 for every other Thopter attacking with it, and Impact Tremors, Reckless Fireweaver and Guttersnipe make the table lose life on turns the fliers can't get through.

One rule worth knowing: Saheeli triggers when you cast the spell, so you keep the Thopter even if an opponent counters it. Copies are not cast, so the extra spells from Galvanic Iteration and Thousand-Year Storm make no Thopters, though each copy still makes a Treasure with Storm-Kiln Artist. An artifact creature like Etherium Sculptor is a creature spell, so it makes no Thopter either. And the Thopters only have haste while Saheeli is on the battlefield.

The first upgrades, once you want to spend more: Aetherflux Reservoir turns a long turn of cheap spells into life and then a 50-damage shot, and Whir of Invention finds whichever artifact you need at instant speed, but Aetherflux alone would cost more than half the cap.

Which sellers fill the cart moves the card total a few dollars either side of $37.79.

These prices don't include shipping. They are card prices only, and TCGplayer adds shipping for each seller in your cart, so the total at checkout will be higher. Card prices also move with demand. For the best experience, check your local game store first: you can see the cards before you buy, skip the shipping, and support the place you play.
