Emrakul was in the moon
Eldritch Moon answers Shadows over Innistrad's mystery: the Eldrazi titan Emrakul was behind the madness, hidden in the moon. The Gatewatch fights her, and the plane is changed by her corruption.
Meld is the set's most unusual mechanic: three pairs of cards, such as Gisela, the Broken Blade and Bruna, the Fading Light, combine into one oversized creature on the battlefield. Emerge lets you cast a creature cheaper by sacrificing another, and escalate adds modes for an extra cost each.
Selfless Spirit, Eldritch Evolution and Geier Reach Sanitarium are from here, and so is Emrakul, the Promised End, which is Commander-legal unlike Emrakul, the Aeons Torn.
Themes
Meld
Two specific cards exile and return as one creature, printed across the backs of both. If the melded creature leaves, both cards go there separately.
Emerge
You may cast the creature by sacrificing a creature and paying the emerge cost reduced by the sacrificed creature's mana value.
Escalate
A modal spell where you pay the escalate cost for each mode beyond the first.
Delirium, madness and investigate
The Shadows over Innistrad mechanics continue.
Where You Can Play It
Eldritch Moon shipped under a single code and is legal in Pioneer, Modern and the eternal formats.

Limited
Drafted as Eldritch Moon, Eldritch Moon, Shadows over Innistrad. Emerge gave sacrifice decks a payoff.

FAQ
Yes. Emrakul, the Promised End is Commander-legal. Emrakul, the Aeons Torn from Rise of the Eldrazi is the one on the banned list.
When the condition on a meld card is met, you exile it and its partner card and return them as one combined creature. If it leaves the battlefield, both cards go to that zone separately.
