The monarch and goad
Conspiracy: Take the Crown is the second Conspiracy set, again a draft product for multiplayer games in Paliano. It introduced two mechanics that later became Commander fixtures: the monarch and goad.
The monarch is a designation: the player who is the monarch draws an extra card at their end step, and a player who deals combat damage to the monarch takes the title. Goad forces a creature to attack each combat, and to attack someone other than you if able. Melee and council's dilemma were also new.
Like the first Conspiracy, it has draft-matters cards and conspiracies alongside reprints chosen for multiplayer. Leovold, Emissary of Trest is banned in Commander.
Themes
The monarch
A designation one player holds. The monarch draws an extra card at their end step, and whoever deals combat damage to the monarch becomes the monarch.
Goad
Until your next turn, the goaded creature attacks each combat if able, and attacks a player other than you if able.
Melee
Whenever this creature attacks, it gets +1/+1 for each opponent you attacked this combat.
Council's dilemma
Each player votes, and you get the effect of every vote cast rather than only the winner.
Conspiracies and draft-matters
More conspiracy cards and cards that act during the draft.
Where You Can Play It
Conspiracy: Take the Crown was never Standard-legal, and its legality depends on which kind of card you are holding.
Three answers in one code. Its twelve conspiracy cards are legal nowhere sanctioned. Its other new cards are legal in Legacy, Vintage and Commander, never Modern or Pioneer. Reprints keep their own legality.
Leovold, Emissary of Trest is banned in Commander. Draft-matters cards are legal in Legacy, Vintage and Commander, but their draft abilities do nothing there. Commons from any set are Pauper-legal; that isn't listed per set here.
Limited
Multiplayer draft and play again, now with the monarch giving every table a target.
Monarch control
Card advantage
Take the monarch and defend it with blockers and removal.
Melee aggro
Attack everyone
Melee creatures that grow when you attack several opponents.
