Five decks for new players
Starter Commander Decks are five preconstructed Commander decks aimed at players new to the format. Each is two allied colors with a straightforward plan, and every card in them is a reprint.
They are useful as a first deck because they show the shape of a Commander deck (land count, ramp, removal and a theme) without the complexity of a set-specific precon. Upgrading one is a common next step.
Where You Can Play It
Starter Commander Decks are reprints only, so every card keeps the legality it already had.
Every card is a reprint, and a reprint doesn't change legality: each card is legal exactly where it already was. Appearing here does not make a card Standard- or Pioneer-legal.
All of these cards are Commander-legal. Sol Ring, in every deck, is banned in Legacy and restricted in Vintage. Commons from any set are Pauper-legal; that isn't listed per set here.
Commander
One per allied color pair.
Building one of these into something of your own? The precon buying guide covers how to judge a deck, and the Commander deck template is the shape to build toward. See how these stack up against every other precon we've rated on the precon directory.
Boosters, precons and singles from Starter Commander Decks are on TCGplayer.
