The last year-named core set

What this set is

Magic 2015 is the last core set named for a year. Magic Origins replaced it the following summer, and after that the line paused until Core Set 2019.

Convoke returns from Ravnica as its theme: you may tap your creatures to help pay for a convoke spell, each one paying for one generic mana or one mana of its color. The set has six planeswalkers, including Garruk, Apex Predator and Nissa, Worldwaker, and six new legendary creatures.

Commander players know it for The Chain Veil, Reclamation Sage and a reprint of Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth.

Returning

Convoke

Your creatures can help cast the spell: each creature you tap pays for {1} or one mana of that creature's color. Back from Ravnica: City of Guilds on twenty-one cards.

Where You Can Play It

Format legality

Magic 2015 shipped under a single code and is legal in Pioneer, Modern and the eternal formats.

Not Standard-legal. Standard only ever holds the last few years of sets, so everything this old has long since left it. These cards are still playable in Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage and Commander. Commons from any set are Pauper-legal; that isn't listed per set here.

Limited

The draft format

A core set format where convoke made go-wide creature decks the default plan in white and green.

GW

Tokens

Make lots of small creatures, then tap them to cast convoke spells for far less mana.

Two colors and removal

Fundamentals

Elsewhere, the usual core set plan of removal and evasive creatures.

Commanders

The legends this set is best known for. Tap one for its printings and what it costs.
