Pod Leaderboards: Standings Across a Whole Night

A Commander gathering is rarely one game at one table. TurnZero HQ's join-code nights can split into several pods running at once, and pod leaderboards turn all of them into one shared standings race for the whole room, not just whoever you happened to sit with.

The problem it solves

A big enough Commander night doesn't stay one table. Once a room has eight, twelve, or sixteen players, it splits into multiple pods running at the same time, and the moment that happens, "who's actually having the best night" becomes an unanswerable question. Nobody at table two knows what happened at table one, and by the end of the evening the only record anyone has is memory, split four or five different ways.

How it works

1

Start or join a gathering with a join code. Guests can join without needing an account.

2

If the room is big enough, the night splits into several pods running at the same time: say, two four-player tables instead of one big one.

3

Every pod's games feed the same night, rather than staying siloed to whoever happened to sit at that table.

4

TurnZero HQ combines the results into one leaderboard for the whole night, scoring a win more heavily than merely surviving longest before elimination.

The night itself, not any one game or any one pod, is what the leaderboard is scoped to. A gathering can run one game at one table across an entire evening, or several pods playing several games each; either way, every tracked result rolls up into the same standings for that night.

Why this matters for recurring nights and leagues

A leaderboard that already exists per-night is most of the infrastructure a Commander league or season needs. The hard part of running a season isn't the idea of a season: it's the bookkeeping across many nights of who actually won what, and pod leaderboards are that bookkeeping for a single night, already built. For a playgroup thinking about making bragging rights official across a whole run of gatherings, see the guide on tracking a Commander league and season for how to build on top of this.

Who this is for

Playgroups who split into multiple tables on a big night and want one combined standings board

Anyone running an informal season or league who needs a per-night record to build on

Groups who want bragging rights to mean something more than whoever remembers loudest

Frequently Asked Questions

What are pod leaderboards?

A combined standings board for an entire TurnZero HQ gathering, not just one table. When a night's games are tracked, everyone's results feed one shared leaderboard for that night, so you can see who actually had the best night, even if you never sat across from most of them.

Do leaderboards work across multiple pods at once?

Yes, that's the point of them. A big enough night splits into several pods running simultaneously, like two four-player tables instead of one, and every one of those pods feeds the same night's leaderboard rather than staying siloed per table.

How is a win scored versus just surviving?

A multiplayer win is worth meaningfully more than simply outlasting other players before being eliminated. Commander is a format where everyone but one player loses every single game, so a leaderboard that only counted eliminations in order would flatten the difference between winning and merely surviving longest. Pod leaderboards weight the actual win instead.

Can guests without an account show up on the leaderboard?

Yes. A join code lets anyone join a gathering without needing a TurnZero HQ account, and guest results count toward the night's leaderboard the same as an account holder's.

Does the leaderboard reset each night or carry over?

Each gathering has its own leaderboard, covering that night's games across however many pods it ran. That same per-night structure is also most of what's needed to run a recurring league or season: see the guide on tracking a Commander league below for how playgroups build standings across many nights, not just one.

Give your whole night a real leaderboard.

One join code, however many pods it takes. TurnZero HQ tracks standings for the whole room, not just your own table.
