Five clans, five wedges

What this set is

Tarkir: Dragonstorm hands each of the five clans its own mechanic, which makes the wedges genuinely distinct rather than just colour combinations. Abzan endure, Jeskai flurry, Sultai renew, Mardu mobilize, Temur harmonize.

The dragons are the connective tissue — behold a dragon turns up across the set as a cost you satisfy by revealing or pointing at one. And despite the three-colour framing, you are not obliged to play a full wedge: two-colour decks that dip into a clan's mechanic are entirely viable in Limited.

Themes

Every mechanic in Tarkir: Dragonstorm

New

Endure

Abzan's keyword action. Endure N means choosing between putting N +1/+1 counters on the creature or creating an N/N white Spirit token — go tall or go wide, decided on the spot each time.

New

Flurry

Jeskai's ability word, triggering when you cast your second spell in a turn. Cheap spells matter a lot here, and it pairs unusually well with harmonize.

New

Harmonize

Temur's keyword. Cast the spell for its harmonize cost and you may tap a creature to reduce the generic portion by that creature's power — big bodies effectively become mana for your spells.

New

Mobilize

Mardu's keyword, always with a number. When a creature with mobilize attacks, you make that many 1/1 red Warrior tokens, entering tapped and attacking. Free damage that evaporates after combat.

New

Renew

Sultai's ability word, and the only one that lives in the graveyard. Every renew ability exiles the card as part of its activation cost, can only be activated at sorcery speed, and puts counters — usually +1/+1 — on creatures. A last use for a card you already spent.

New

Behold a Dragon

A keyword action running across the whole set: satisfy a cost by revealing a Dragon from your hand or pointing at one you control. The mechanical thread tying the five clans together.

Returning

Omen

Creature cards carrying a spell half you can cast instead, shuffling the card back afterwards. Flexibility on a body, and a helpful way to hit flurry's second-spell condition.

Limited

Five clans, five archetypes

The wedges are the archetypes, each built on its clan's mechanic. Two-colour decks dipping into one clan's mechanic are perfectly draftable — you don't have to commit to all three colours.

WBG

Abzan

Endure

Counters and Spirit tokens, choosing tall or wide as each endure trigger resolves.

WUR

Jeskai

Flurry

Two spells a turn, rewarded every time. Cheap interaction is at a premium.

UBG

Sultai

Renew

Graveyard value — spend a card, then spend it once more from the yard for counters.

RWB

Mardu

Mobilize

Aggressive attacks that bring their own token army along for the swing.

GUR

Temur

Harmonize

Big creatures that double as mana, discounting your expensive spells.

Commander

The five Commander decks

One per clan, matching the wedge and the mechanic.

Abzan Armor

WBG · Endure

Counters and Spirit tokens.

Jeskai Striker

WUR · Flurry

Second-spell payoffs on an aggressive shell.

Sultai Arisen

UBG · Renew

Graveyard recursion and counters.

Mardu Surge

RWB · Mobilize

Token swarms and attack triggers.

Temur Roar

GUR · Harmonize

Big creatures, discounted big spells.

FAQ

Common questions

When did Tarkir: Dragonstorm release?

April 11, 2025, with prerelease events from April 4. Set codes are TDM for the main set and TDC for the Commander decks.

What are the five clan mechanics?

Endure for Abzan, flurry for Jeskai, harmonize for Temur, mobilize for Mardu and renew for Sultai. Behold a Dragon runs across the whole set, and omen returns.

How does renew work?

Renew is Sultai's ability word and the only one that operates from the graveyard. Every renew ability exiles the card as part of its activation cost, can only be activated at sorcery speed, and puts counters — usually +1/+1 — on creatures.

Do I have to draft three colors in Tarkir: Dragonstorm?

No. The wedges are the archetypes, but two-colour decks that dip into a single clan's mechanic are entirely viable, and you can touch several mechanics without committing to a full wedge.

What are the five Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander decks?

One per clan: Abzan Armor, Jeskai Striker, Sultai Arisen, Mardu Surge and Temur Roar.

Playing Tarkir: Dragonstorm in Commander?

TurnZero keeps deck records, MMR, and moments for every Commander night — so you can see which new cards are actually earning their slot.
