Assemble. Or don't.

Magic's second Marvel crossover is here, and it went big: ten two-color draft archetypes, a full roster of Avengers and villains, and a Doctor Doom card that might be the scariest 6-drop printed all year. Here's everything worth knowing now that the dust has settled.

The Setup

Not on Arena — but not left out, either

Like Spider-Man before it, Marvel Super Heroes doesn't appear on Magic Online or MTG Arena under its own name — Marvel's licensing keeps it paper (and tabletop-adjacent digital storefronts) only. Instead, Arena and MTGO get a mechanically identical set under the in-universe "Through the Omenpaths" banner, swapping Marvel names and art for original Magic characters and settings while keeping every card's function the same.
Mechanics

What's actually new here

New
Power-Up
A once-per-creature activated ability that adds +1/+1 counters and often more. Activate it the turn the creature enters and the cost drops by that creature's mana cost — think of it as an alternate "cast it big" price tag.
New
Teamwork
An optional extra cost on instants and sorceries: tap any number of creatures with total power equal to the listed number for a bigger effect. Built for exactly the kind of "call in backup" moment the name implies.
New
Plan
A new enchantment subtype for villain schemes — each Plan racks up counters from a small trigger, then delivers one big payoff and sacrifices itself once it hits its target number. Doctor Doom-flavored, appropriately.
Returning
Connive
Back from Streets of New Capenna and Spider-Man: draw a card, discard a card, and pick up a +1/+1 counter if what you tossed wasn't a land. The backbone of the set's villain-control archetype.
Returning
Transforming MDFCs
Secret-identity cards return from Spider-Man — cast either face, and now any of them can transform mid-game too, letting T'Challa become Black Panther or Tony Stark suit up without leaving the battlefield.
New
Worthy & Harness
Two flavor-forward one-offs: Mjölnir only equips itself onto legendary, non-Villain red and/or white creatures (worthy), while The Mind Stone can be permanently harnessed for a repeatable end-step bonus, mirroring The Soul Stone.
Limited

All ten draft archetypes are back

After three sets running the five-archetype model, Marvel Super Heroes returns to a full ten two-color pairs — one for every guild, each anchored by a gold signpost uncommon.
W
U
Tapping Down (Teamwork)
Azorius · Control / Tempo
The set's weakest link by most early reviews — vigilance and tap effects with a noncreature-spell shell that hasn't fully clicked yet. Worth drafting only with strong open signals.
Signpost: Captain America, Living Legend
U
B
Draw Two a Turn (Connive)
Dimir · Villain Control
A grindy Villain-control deck that loots relentlessly with connive, then buries the opponent in card advantage. Widely rated one of the format's strongest archetypes.
Signpost: Madame Masque
B
R
Villains
Rakdos · Aggro
Straightforward Villain typal aggro — Madame Hydra spits out 2/1 menace tokens every time you cast one, and this pair has no shortage of Villains to feed her.
Signpost: Madame Hydra

Power-Ups
Gruul · Midrange / Stompy
Go big with a discount — Hulk, Gamma Goliath knocks 3 mana off every Power-up activation, turning a deck full of below-curve creatures into a stampede.
Signpost: Hulk, Gamma Goliath
G
W
Heroes
Selesnya · Go-Wide Aggro
Go-wide Hero typal aggro. Roughly 80% of creatures in these colors are Heroes, so the deck basically builds itself — just keep casting Heroes and swinging.
Signpost: Black Panther, Vanguard
W
B
Attacking Alone
Orzhov · Unblocked Aggro
A tricky, high-ceiling archetype that rewards sending a single big threat in unblocked. Also picks up a side theme of equipment synergies.
Signpost: Black Widow, Double Agent
B
G
Two Creatures to the Yard
Golgari · Sacrifice / Recursion
A sacrifice-and-recursion shell that wants creatures dying on both sides of the board — Killmonger trades a creature for the right to kill something better.
Signpost: Killmonger, Scourge of Wakanda
U
G
+1/+1 Counters
Simic · Counters Value
A counters build-around that churns out Insect tokens off any +1/+1 counter placed — including the ones your Power-up creatures are already making.
Signpost: Ant-Man, Colony Commander
U
R
Artifacts
Izzet · Artifacts Value
A break from Izzet's usual spellslinging identity — this is the set's artifact-matters deck, rewarded for playing and casting as many artifacts as possible.
Signpost: Iron Man, Master of Machines
R
W
Noncreature Spells
Boros · Spells Aggro
Prowess and heroic payoffs for a spell-heavy aggro shell. Thor Odinson turns every noncreature spell into a +2/+2 pump, twice per spell.
Signpost: Thor Odinson
By The Numbers

Hero and Villain lean, by color

Hero and Villain are mechanically relevant creature subtypes throughout the set, and they aren't spread evenly. White and red skew hardest toward Heroes; blue and black skew hardest toward Villains. Green sits in the middle, bridging both sides depending on the deck.

Approximate splits based on Limited set-review coverage, not an official card count — green in particular swings depending on whether you're drafting Selesnya Heroes or Golgari Villains.
Commander

The four precons, plus chase build-arounds

Marvel Super Heroes shipped with four Commander precons at launch, each anchored by a signature character or duo.
Captain America, Team Leader & Nick Fury
Avengers Assemble · Jeskai (WUR)
Hero typal and +1/+1 counters. Cast Heroes, let Cap lead the charge, and let Nick Fury dig your hand full of reinforcements.
Shuri, the Black Panther
Wakanda Forever · Selesnya (GW)
Artifacts and Vibranium tokens. Pile up artifacts and Shuri turns that pile into card advantage and a growing Black Panther threat.
Doctor Doom, King of Latveria
Doom Prevails · Grixis (UBR)
Villains, sacrifice, and connive. Built around the same Doctor Doom who rated a perfect 10/10 in Limited — indestructible, card-drawing, and backed by a pair of Doombots on arrival.
Mister Fantastic, Reed Richards
The Fantastic Four · Four-Color
Noncreature spells and triggered-ability copying across four colors. The precon built to reward casting a pile of instants and sorceries and getting them twice.
