Universes Beyond

What this set is

TMNT is a smaller release than a full tentpole expansion, and the format reflects that: five two-color Limited archetypes instead of the usual ten. What it lacks in breadth it makes up for with Sneak, one of the more interesting new mechanics of the year.

Everything in the set orbits four themes — +1/+1 counters, creatures entering the battlefield, artifacts, and Sneak — which is how a set this small still holds together across wildly different settings.

Themes

Every mechanic in TMNT

New

Sneak

Cast a spell by returning an unblocked creature to your hand during the declare blockers step, usually at a mana discount and often with a bonus for doing it. Worth being precise about how it differs from ninjutsu: Sneak *is* casting the spell, so it can be countered, whereas ninjutsu is an activated ability that can't. Ninjutsu also lived on creatures — Sneak turns up on noncreature spells too.

New

Mutagen

An artifact token. Sacrifice it to put a +1/+1 counter on target creature — which quietly makes every Mutagen-maker an artifact payoff and a counters payoff at the same time.

New

Disappear

Pays you off whenever a permanent you control leaves the battlefield, which turns sacrifice from a cost into an engine. It anchors the black-green archetype alongside Food tokens.

Returning

Alliance

Triggers whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control. Cheap to turn on repeatedly in a set this dense with token and ETB effects.

Returning

Class

The levelling enchantment type from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, back as a way to represent characters growing into their roles over a game.

New

Partner — Character select

A Commander-deck variant of partner: it lets you field a second commander, so the precon can put a specific character in the command zone alongside its face commander rather than forcing one canonical pairing.

Limited

The five draft archetypes

A smaller set means five two-color pairs rather than all ten, and each one is built on a single named theme.

WB

Sneak

Instant-Speed Tricks

The archetype that leans hardest on the new mechanic — Sneak creatures used as combat tricks at instant speed.

WR

Alliance

ETB Aggro

Built on the returning Alliance mechanic, so the deck wants a steady stream of creatures entering the battlefield.

UR

Machines

Artifacts

Artifact synergies, themed around Donatello and the Utrom aliens from Dimension X. Buzz Bots and Ravenous Robots do the heavy lifting.

UG

Mutagen

Ramp / Card Draw

Draws cards and ramps, then converts Mutagen tokens into +1/+1 counters on something worth growing.

BG

Disappear

Sacrifice / Control

A controlling sacrifice deck built on Disappear and Food, paying you off whenever a permanent you control leaves the battlefield.

Commander

The Commander deck

A single precon launched alongside the set, rather than the four a tentpole expansion usually gets.

Leonardo, the Balance

“Turtle Power!” · Face commander

The deck's face commander, fronting a +1/+1 counters and Mutagen-token strategy.

Heroes in a Half Shell

“Turtle Power!” · Backup commander

The deck's second commander, and the reason Partner — Character select exists here: you can run it alongside Leonardo rather than choosing between them.

Building one of these into something of your own? The precon buying guide covers how to judge a deck, and the Commander deck template is the shape to build toward.

FAQ

Common questions

When did the MTG Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set release?

It released worldwide on March 6, 2026, under the set code TMT, as a Universes Beyond crossover.

How is Sneak different from ninjutsu?

Sneak lets you cast a spell by returning an unblocked creature to your hand during the declare blockers step, usually at a discount. The key difference is that Sneak is casting a spell, so it can be countered — ninjutsu is an activated ability, which can't. Ninjutsu also only appeared on creatures, while Sneak shows up on noncreature spells too.

What is a Mutagen token?

An artifact token. Sacrifice it to put a +1/+1 counter on target creature, which means every card that makes one is simultaneously an artifact payoff and a +1/+1 counters payoff.

What are the TMNT draft archetypes?

Five two-color pairs rather than the usual ten, because this is a smaller set: white-black Sneak, white-red Alliance, blue-red Machines (artifacts), blue-green Mutagen (ramp and card draw), and black-green Disappear (sacrifice and Food).

How many TMNT Commander decks are there?

One, called Turtle Power!, rather than the four a tentpole set usually ships. It is led by Leonardo, the Balance, with Heroes in a Half Shell as a second commander via the Partner — Character select mechanic, and it plays +1/+1 counters and Mutagen tokens.

Playing TMNT in Commander?

TurnZero keeps deck records, MMR, and moments for every Commander night — so you can see which new cards are actually earning their slot.
