The Dark Illusion Card List and Set Guide

Overview

The Dark Illusion released August 4, 2016, with 100 cards under the TDIL set code: 44 Commons, 4 Short Prints, 20 Rares, 14 Super Rares, 10 Ultra Rares and 8 Secret Rares.

98 of the 100 cards were new to the TCG. The other two have an earlier 2016 printing in the catalog.

Metalfoes gets the most cards, eleven Pendulum and Fusion cards, and Performapal and Triamid eight each. Dark Magician gets six support cards, including Magician's Rod, Magician of Dark Illusion, Dark Magical Circle and Magician Navigation, and Subterror and Paleozoic begin here.

Cards and rarities

The Dark Illusion has 100 set codes, each starting TDIL-EN and printed under the artwork on the right. Where a card comes at more than one rarity, every version shares its code, so the table counts set codes at each rarity and a code printed at two rarities is counted twice.

Each set code has one rarity, so the 100 set codes are also 100 printings. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts the distinct set codes you own against the set's total, so a card printed at two rarities counts once, with an every-rarity count beside it for collectors chasing each version. Archetypes

The Dark Magician cards are the most valuable group in The Dark Illusion. Metalfoes and Subterror are the other main themes.

Magician's Rod

TDIL-EN019

When Normal Summoned it adds a Spell or Trap that lists Dark Magician from your Deck. On your opponent's turn, after you activate a Spell or Trap, it returns from the GY to your hand by Tributing a Spellcaster.

Magician of Dark Illusion

TDIL-EN017

Treated as Dark Magician on the field. It Special Summons itself from your hand when you activate a Spell or Trap on your opponent's turn, and revives Dark Magician.

Dark Magical Circle

TDIL-EN057

A Continuous Spell that looks at your top 3 cards for Dark Magician or a card that mentions it, then banishes an opponent's card each time Dark Magician is Summoned to your field.

Magician Navigation

TDIL-EN071

A Trap that Special Summons Dark Magician from your hand and a Level 7 or lower DARK Spellcaster from your Deck, and later negates a Spell or Trap from your GY.

Metalfoes Fusion

TDIL-EN061

Fusion Summons a Metalfoes Fusion Monster from your hand or field, and shuffles itself back from the GY to draw a card.

Subterror Behemoth Umastryx

TDIL-EN083

A Subterror Flip monster that banishes an opponent's monster when flipped, and Special Summons itself when your only face-up monster is flipped face-down.

Cards worth knowing

Four general cards that saw play well beyond the set's themes.

Pot of Desires

TDIL-EN066

Banish the top 10 cards of your Deck face-down to draw 2 cards, once per turn.

Card of the Soul

TDIL-EN068

Look at your Deck and add a monster whose ATK and DEF add up to your current LP.

Tyrant Red Dragon Archfiend

TDIL-EN050

A Level 10 Synchro for 2 Tuners that destroys every other card on the field in Main Phase 1, and negates Spells and Traps in the Battle Phase.

Toon Dark Magician

TDIL-EN032

A Toon that discards a Toon card to Special Summon another Toon from your Deck or add a Toon Spell or Trap.

Rarity Super Rare

Set code TDIL-EN019

1st Edition market price, October 22, 2026 $17.17

The Super Rare Magician's Rod (TDIL-EN019) is The Dark Illusion's most valuable card, at $17.17 on October 22, 2026. The Ultra Rare Subterror Behemoth Umastryx was next at $9.27.

It is a Level 3 DARK Spellcaster. When it is Normal Summoned it adds a Spell or Trap that specifically lists Dark Magician from your Deck to your hand, and during your opponent's turn, after you activate a Spell or Trap, it can Tribute a Spellcaster to return from your GY to your hand.

It is printed only as a Super Rare in this set, and it is more valuable than every Secret Rare in it.

Rarity is in the foil rather than the set code, so check it before you price the copy in your hand. Reading the set code and rarity →

Chase cards and prices

Dark Magician support and general Spells fill the list. The Short Print Card of the Soul was $8.53 on October 22, 2026, ahead of most Secret Rares, and 83 of the 100 cards were under $1.

Playing it

Four cards in The Dark Illusion are on the Forbidden & Limited List as of October 23, 2026. Blackwing - Gofu the Vague Shadow and Block Dragon are Forbidden, and Fairy Tail - Snow and Magical Mid-Breaker Field are Limited.

The Dark Magician cards here work as a package: Magician's Rod searches Dark Magical Circle or Magician Navigation, and those find or Summon Dark Magician. They were reprinted later in Dark Magician-themed products.
