Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG
Genesys is Konami's points format: no Link or Pendulum Monsters, no Forbidden & Limited List, and a budget of points to spend on the strongest cards. Here are the rules, how to spend 100 points, and Konami's full points list.
Genesys changes three things about a normal TCG deck. Konami's own summary is short: "No Link Monsters or Pendulum Monsters are allowed. All other cards are allowed."
With no Extra Monster Zones, the Extra Deck works the way it did before Link Monsters: Fusion, Synchro and Xyz Monsters are Summoned to your Main Monster Zones like any other monster.
Most cards cost zero points. Konami gives a point value to the cards it considers strongest, and the total of every card in your Main Deck, Extra Deck and Side Deck can't go over the event's cap. In Konami's words, "The standard point cap is 100, but events can be run with any point cap, or even a zero-point cap!"
719 cards are on the list as of October 11, 2026, and 104 of them cost 100 points or more. Those cards fill a standard budget on their own: if you play one, nothing else in your deck can cost points. Many of them are floodgates, cards like Imperial Order and Royal Oppression that stop a whole kind of play for both players while they stay on the field.
The points list and the TCG banlist judge cards differently. Cards that have been Forbidden for years are legal in Genesys at a price, and cards the banlist leaves alone can still cost points. These are Konami's points as of October 11, 2026, beside each card's status on the TCG list.
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring is the clearest case. It is Unlimited in the TCG and costs points in Genesys, so a Genesys deck that plays 3 copies has spent part of its budget before adding anything else. The TCG Forbidden & Limited List →
Every card Konami gives points, highest first, as listed on Konami's Genesys page on October 11, 2026. Konami's page doesn't print an update date, so check it before an event. Each name with a card page links to it.
Start from the cap, not the cards. Decide which point cards are worth the most to your deck, add them up, and fill the rest with zero-point cards. Each copy costs its points, so 3 copies of a 20-point card cost 60.
Check your Extra Deck next. Any Link Monster has to come out, and a deck whose combos end on a Link needs a new way to finish. Decks built around Fusion, Synchro, Xyz or Ritual Monsters lose the least. The usual deck sizes apply: 40 to 60 cards in the Main Deck, up to 15 in the Extra Deck and up to 15 in the Side Deck. Genesys is an official Konami format with its own deck building rules. Link and Pendulum Monsters aren't allowed, the Forbidden & Limited List isn't used, and some cards cost points instead. Your Main, Extra and Side Deck together can't go over the event's point cap, which is 100 by default.
Yes. Pot of Greed is Forbidden in the regular TCG format, but Genesys doesn't use that list. It costs 20 points on Konami's list as of October 11, 2026.
No. Konami's rules say no Link Monsters or Pendulum Monsters are allowed. The field also has no Extra Monster Zones and no Pendulum Zones, as it was before those mechanics existed.
719 cards are on Konami's points list as of October 11, 2026, and 104 of them cost 100 points or more. Every other card costs zero.
Yes. Konami's page says the standard cap is 100, but an event can use any cap, even zero, and Official Tournament Stores can set their own. Check the cap before you build.
