Abyss Rising Card List and Set Guide

Overview

Abyss Rising is a 100-card set released November 9, 2012, with codes ABYR-EN000 to ABYR-EN099. 99 cards were new; one had appeared first on a sneak peek card, according to the catalog's release dates.

Its new archetype is the Mermails, twelve WATER cards that discard other WATER monsters to Special Summon themselves and search Abyss- Spells and Traps. The Spellbooks get ten more cards and the Madolche six, including their Xyz, Madolche Queen Tiaramisu.

It has fifteen Xyz Monsters, the most of any set in this list so far, including Bahamut Shark and Abyss Dweller, both Forbidden today. Its Ghost Rare is Number C32: Shark Drake Veiss, and prices for the set are moderate.

Cards and rarities

Abyss Rising has 100 set codes, each starting ABYR-EN and printed under the artwork on the right. Where a card comes at more than one rarity, every version shares its code, so the table counts set codes at each rarity and a code printed at two rarities is counted twice.

The 10 Ultimate Rares and the Ghost Rare count again beside their other rarity, which is why the rows add up to 111 printings for 100 set codes. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts the distinct set codes you own against the set's total, so a card printed at two rarities counts once, with an every-rarity count beside it for collectors chasing each version. Playing it

2 cards from Abyss Rising are on the Forbidden & Limited List as of October 23, 2026: Abyss Dweller and Bahamut Shark are Forbidden. A Forbidden card cannot be played at all and a Limited card at one copy per deck; the rest of the set can be run at three.

Mermail Abyssmegalo and its relatives discard WATER monsters as their cost, so a Mermail deck turns its own hand into fuel and relies on effects like Mermail Abysslinde's to replace what it spends.
