Dark Beginning 2 Card List and Set Guide

Overview

Dark Beginning 2 is a reprint set released July 27, 2005, with 250 set codes from DB2-EN001 to DB2-EN250. Only 2 of its cards were new: Toon Masked Sorcerer and Toon Defense, according to the catalog's release dates.

Where Dark Beginning 1 drew mostly from Magic Ruler and Pharaoh's Servant, this one leans on later sets: 83 cards first printed in Legacy of Darkness, 48 in Metal Raiders, 42 in Pharaonic Guardian and 34 in Labyrinth of Nightmare, plus cards from the early Tournament Packs and tins.

TCGplayer prices the set only in Unlimited, and the catalog has no 1st Edition price for any of its cards, so the prices in this guide are Unlimited. The catalog also lists 14 entries under the set with DB-EN codes, which this guide leaves out.

Cards and rarities

Dark Beginning 2 has 250 set codes, each starting DB2-EN and printed under the artwork on the right. Where a card comes at more than one rarity, every version shares its code, so the table counts set codes at each rarity and a code printed at two rarities is counted twice.

Each DB2-EN code is printed at a single rarity, so the rows add up to the set's 250 cards. Like Dark Beginning 1, it has no Secret Rare. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts the distinct set codes you own against the set's total, so a card printed at two rarities counts once, with an every-rarity count beside it for collectors chasing each version. Reprinted classics

Dark Beginning 2 has no theme of its own beyond its two new Toon cards. These are reprints that collectors and players looked for.

Playing it

12 cards from Dark Beginning 2 are on the Forbidden & Limited List as of October 23, 2026: Cyber-Stein, Fiber Jar, Graceful Charity, Heavy Storm, Jowgen the Spiritualist, Last Turn, Royal Oppression, Smoke Grenade of the Thief and Trap Dustshoot are Forbidden; Reinforcement of the Army, Solemn Judgment and Toon Table of Contents are Limited. A Forbidden card cannot be played at all and a Limited card at one copy per deck; the rest of the set can be run at three.

A Dark Beginning 2 reprint plays exactly like the original printing, so it is the cheapest way to get many of these cards into a deck.
