The Shining Darkness Card List and Set Guide

Overview

The Shining Darkness is a 100-card set released May 7, 2010, with codes TSHD-EN000 to TSHD-EN099. 92 cards were new; seven had appeared first in Duel Terminal 1 and one on a sneak peek card, according to the catalog's release dates.

Its main archetype is Infernity: fourteen DARK cards, mostly Fiends, whose effects work only while you have no cards in your hand, led by Infernity Doom Dragon and Infernity Barrier. The Blackwings get eight more cards and the X-Sabers five, and five Genex cards, some first printed in Duel Terminal 1, join them.

Black-Winged Dragon is printed at Ultra, Ultimate and Ghost Rare, and its Ghost Rare is worth more than three times any other card in the set.

Cards and rarities

The Shining Darkness has 100 set codes, each starting TSHD-EN and printed under the artwork on the right. Where a card comes at more than one rarity, every version shares its code, so the table counts set codes at each rarity and a code printed at two rarities is counted twice.

The 10 Ultimate Rares and the Ghost Rare count again beside their other rarity, which is why the rows add up to 111 printings for 100 set codes. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts the distinct set codes you own against the set's total, so a card printed at two rarities counts once, with an every-rarity count beside it for collectors chasing each version. Infernity and Blackwings

Infernity is the set's new archetype; the Blackwings get their Ghost Rare Synchro.

Infernity Doom Dragon

TSHD-EN042

A Synchro for a DARK Tuner. With no cards in your hand, once per turn it destroys an opponent's monster and deals half its ATK as damage, but it cannot attack that turn.

Infernity Mirage

TSHD-EN012

With no cards in your hand, Tribute it to Special Summon 2 Infernity monsters from your GY.

Infernity Barrier

TSHD-EN089

A Counter Trap: with an Infernity in Attack Position and no cards in hand, negate an opponent's Spell, Trap or monster effect and destroy it.

Black-Winged Dragon

TSHD-EN040

A Level 8 Synchro. Effect damage to you becomes Black Feather Counters, which it can remove to shrink an opponent's monster and deal damage.

Blackwing - Breeze the Zephyr

TSHD-EN003

A Blackwing Tuner that Special Summons itself when a card effect adds it from your Deck to your hand.

Cards worth knowing

Four more cards from The Shining Darkness. Infernity Launcher and Into the Void are Limited and Ronintoadin is Forbidden.

Herald of Perfection

TSHD-EN039

A Ritual Fairy that sends a Fairy from your hand to the GY to negate an opponent's Spell, Trap or monster effect.

Into the Void

TSHD-EN049

With 3 or more cards in hand, draw 1 card, then discard your whole hand in the End Phase. It is Limited.

XX-Saber Darksoul

TSHD-EN081

In the End Phase of a turn it was sent from the field to the GY, add an X-Saber from your Deck to your hand.

Chaos Goddess

TSHD-EN044

A Secret Rare Synchro: send a LIGHT monster from your hand to the GY to revive a Level 5 or higher DARK monster.

The chase card: Black-Winged Dragon

Black-Winged Dragon

TSHD-EN040

Rarity Ghost Rare

Set code TSHD-EN040

1st Edition market price, October 23, 2026 $161.82

The 1st Edition Ghost Rare Black-Winged Dragon (TSHD-EN040) is The Shining Darkness's chase card, at $161.82 on October 23, 2026. The 1st Edition Ultimate Rare of the same code was next at $49.00.

The Unlimited Ghost Rare was $99.07, and the Ultra Rare $11.40 in 1st Edition.

It is a Level 8 DARK Dragon Synchro Monster with 2800 ATK. Damage you would take from card effects becomes Black Feather Counters on it instead, each costing it 700 ATK, and once per turn it removes them all to cut an opponent's monster's ATK and deal that much damage.

Playing it

3 cards from The Shining Darkness are on the Forbidden & Limited List as of October 23, 2026: Ronintoadin is Forbidden; Infernity Launcher and Into the Void are Limited. A Forbidden card cannot be played at all and a Limited card at one copy per deck; the rest of the set can be run at three.

Infernity cards only work with an empty hand, so the deck plays its hand out fast and uses cards like Infernity Launcher, which can send Infernity monsters from your hand to the GY, to get there.
