Ancient Sanctuary Card List and Set Guide
112 cards with The Agents and The Sanctuary in the Sky, the first Monarch, Enemy Controller and Spells for Blue-Eyes and Dark Magician.
Overview
Ancient Sanctuary is a 112-card set released June 1, 2004, with codes AST-000 to AST-111. All 112 cards were new, and the catalog lists no second code format for it.
Its theme is Fairy monsters around the Field Spell The Sanctuary in the Sky: five The Agent cards, and Warrior of Zera, which is Tributed to Special Summon either Archlord Zerato (with The Sanctuary in the Sky on the field) or Mazera DeVille (with Pandemonium).
It also has the first Monarch, Zaborg the Thunder Monarch, and two Spells that name the original stars: Burst Stream of Destruction for Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Dark Magic Attack for Dark Magician.
Prices are low and close together. On October 23, 2026 the most valuable printing was $35.00, and eight others were within $20 of it.
Cards and rarities
Ancient Sanctuary has 112 set codes, each starting AST- and printed under the artwork on the right. Where a card comes at more than one rarity, every version shares its code, so the table counts set codes at each rarity and a code printed at two rarities is counted twice.
Each AST- code is printed at a single rarity, so the rows add up to the set's 112 cards. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts the distinct set codes you own against the set's total, so a card printed at two rarities counts once, with an every-rarity count beside it for collectors chasing each version. The Agents and Zera
The Agents are LIGHT Fairies that do more while The Sanctuary in the Sky is face-up, and Warrior of Zera is the shared material for the set's two Level 8 bosses.
The Sanctuary in the Sky
AST-042
A Field Spell: battle damage to the controller of a Fairy monster from battles involving that monster becomes 0.
The Agent of Judgment - Saturn
AST-006
With The Sanctuary in the Sky face-up and more LP than your opponent, Tribute it to deal damage equal to the difference. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase that turn.
Archlord Zerato
AST-034
Special Summoned by Tributing a face-up Warrior of Zera while The Sanctuary in the Sky is on the field. With the Sanctuary on your side, discard a LIGHT monster to destroy every monster your opponent controls.
Mazera DeVille
AST-111
Special Summoned by Tributing a face-up Warrior of Zera while Pandemonium is on the field; if Pandemonium is on your side, your opponent discards 3 random cards.
Cards worth knowing
Four cards from Ancient Sanctuary that outlived its theme. Monster Gate, also from this set, is Limited.
Enemy Controller
AST-037
A Quick-Play Spell: change an opponent's monster's battle position, or Tribute a monster to take control of one of theirs until the End Phase.
Zaborg the Thunder Monarch
AST-023
When Tribute Summoned, destroy 1 monster on the field.
Burst Stream of Destruction
AST-038
If you control Blue-Eyes White Dragon, destroy all monsters your opponent controls; your Blue-Eyes cannot attack that turn.
Dark Magic Attack
AST-095
If you control Dark Magician, destroy all Spells and Traps your opponent controls.
The chase card: Mazera DeVille
The 1st Edition Secret Rare Mazera DeVille (AST-111) was the most valuable Ancient Sanctuary card on October 23, 2026, at $35.00. The 1st Edition Ultra Rare Enemy Controller was next at $32.81.
The edition matters a great deal here: the Unlimited Mazera DeVille was $1.26 the same day.
It is a Level 8 DARK Fiend with 2800 ATK that can only be Special Summoned by Tributing a face-up Warrior of Zera while Pandemonium is on the field. If Pandemonium is on your side when you do, your opponent discards 3 random cards.
Rarity is in the foil rather than the set code, so check it before you price the copy in your hand. Reading the set code and rarity →

Playing it
One card from Ancient Sanctuary is on the Forbidden & Limited List as of October 23, 2026: Monster Gate is Limited. A Forbidden card cannot be played at all and a Limited card at one copy per deck; the rest of the set can be run at three.
Archlord Zerato and Mazera DeVille both need a face-up Warrior of Zera and a specific Field Spell on the field, so each is a two-card setup before it can be Summoned at all.
