Platinum came out on February 11, 2009, with 133 cards: 115 Pokémon, 17 Trainers and 1 Energy. It introduced Pokémon SP, special Pokémon owned by a group: here 13 Team Galactic Pokémon marked G, such as Dialga G. It also brought in the Lost Zone, where cards go out of the game for good, used by Giratina LV.X and Dialga G LV.X.

Its six Pokémon LV.X are Dialga G, Drapion, Giratina, Palkia G and two Shaymin. The printed total is 127. Above it sit three secret rares, Electabuzz, Hitmonchan and Scyther, and three shiny Pokémon numbered SH4 to SH6.

Cards and rarities

Platinum has 133 cards. Every card shows its number over the printed total along the bottom, as in "4/127". The cards print a set symbol, not a set code; the code here is the short one the catalog and TurnZero HQ file the set under.

The printed total is 127. Above it are three secret rares, 128 to 130, and three SH shiny Pokémon that the catalog lists as Rare. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts a set against its printed total and keeps the secret rares apart, so finishing the main set and chasing the cards above it read as two separate goals. What a complete set costs

One copy of every card in Platinum, bought as singles, cost $2,097.20 on October 22, 2026. That is the least expensive of the four sets in the Platinum series.

Complete set $2,097.20
Main set, 1 to 127 $1,559.70
6 above 127 (3 secret, 3 SH) $537.50
Top three cards $675.33 (32%)

The three most valuable cards, Dialga G LV.X, Vulpix and Giratina, come to $675.33, or 32% of the total. Without them the set costs $1,421.87. Of the 133 cards, 69 were under $2.00, together $51.14; the other 64 add up to $2,046.06.

Each card is counted at its cheapest priced variant, usually a Normal copy rather than a Reverse Holofoil, or a stamped promo copy where the catalog prices one lower, at its TCGplayer market price. This is what it costs to buy the set as singles. It is not what opening packs returns, and not what a complete set would sell for, which after fees and the many cards worth cents would be noticeably less.

Playing it

Platinum is not legal in Standard or Expanded as a set: Expanded starts with the Black & White series in 2011. The catalog marks four of its 133 cards as legal anyway, one of them in Standard too.

They are Poké Ball, legal in both formats; and Life Herb, PlusPower and Rainbow Energy, legal in Expanded only.

Each shares its name and text with a later, legal printing, which is what makes an older copy playable. Every other card in the set is legal in neither format.
