Mel in Riftbound
Mel has 1 Legend, 1 Signature card and 2 champion units in the released Riftbound sets. Here is every one, what it does, and how they fit together in a Mel deck.
Mel's Legend
A Mel deck is led by Mel, Soul's Reflection, which plays Mind and Chaos. The Legend is the card that leads your deck: its tag names your champion and its two domains are the only ones your other cards can come from.
| Card | Set | Domain | Rules text |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mel, Soul's Reflection | Vendetta | Mind and Chaos | When you empower something else, empower me. (I become Empowered if I'm not already.) Disempower me, [Exhaust]: Give a unit at a battlefield -2 [Might] this turn. |
Text is as Riot's card gallery gives it, with icons in brackets: [1] is 1 Energy, [Any Power] is 1 Power of any domain and [Exhaust] means turn the card sideways. Every Riftbound Legend →
Mel's Signature cards
Mel has 1 Signature card. A Signature card carries one champion's tag, and only a deck whose Legend names that champion can play it. Your deck can hold at most 3 Signature cards in total, counting copies.
| Card | Set | Type | Domain | Cost | Rules text |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rebuttal | Vendetta | Signature spell | Mind and Chaos | 1 | [Reaction] (Play any time, even before spells and abilities resolve.) Choose a spell with Energy cost no more than [4]. You may pay [Any Power]. If you do, gain control of it and you may make new choices for it. Otherwise, counter it. |
Mel's champion units
Mel has 2 champion units across 1 set. One copy of a champion unit sits out as your Chosen Champion, which must carry your Legend's tag, so these are the cards a Mel deck picks it from. Each has its own name, and the 3-copy limit counts each name apart.
| Card | Set | Domain | Rarity | Cost | Might | Rules text |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mel, Newly Awakened | Vendetta | Mind | Epic | 4 | 4 | When you play me, draw 1. [Empower] [3] ([3]: Empower me. Use only if not Empowered.) [Empowered][>] Your spells and abilities can't be countered. If a spell or ability you control would give -[Might] to a unit it chooses, it gives an additional -1 [Might]. |
| Mel, Defiant Soul | Vendetta | Chaos | Rare | 5 | 4 | [Empower] — Discard a spell (Pay the cost: Empower me. Use only if not Empowered.) When I become [Empowered], banish an enemy unit at a battlefield with 3 [Might] or less. |
Building aMel deck
A Riftbound deck has 1 Legend, a main deck of at least 40 cards, 12 runes and 3 battlefields. Every card in the main deck has to come from your Legend's two domains, which decides which of Mel's cards each Legend can use.
| Legend | Domains | Chosen Champion options | Signature cards in its domains |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mel, Soul's Reflection | Mind and Chaos | Mel, Newly Awakened, Mel, Defiant Soul | Rebuttal |
A champion unit can be your Chosen Champion only if every domain it has is one of your Legend's two. Units of other champions can still go in your main deck as ordinary cards if their domains fit. The full deck-building rules → Published Riftbound decks →
