Riftbound Hidden Cards

Hidden is the Riftbound keyword that lets you set a card facedown at a battlefield and spring it later for free. Here's exactly how it works, the cards that reward it, and every Hidden card released so far.

Five Riftbound cards built around the Hidden keyword fanned out: Fight or Flight, Hidden Blade, Zhonya's Hourglass in front, Tideturner and the Legend Teemo, Swift Scout.

How Hidden works

Every Hidden card prints the same reminder text: "Hide now for [Any Power] to react with later for [0]." [Any Power] is 1 Power of any domain, so hiding costs one recycled rune, and playing the card later costs nothing.

StepWhat happens

Cost to hide1 Power of any domain.
Playing itFrom your next turn on, it has Reaction, and you play it ignoring its base cost.
Losing itIt stays hidden only while you control that battlefield.

Reaction means you can play the card at almost any time, even in response to an opponent's spell. So a hidden card is a card your opponent knows is there, can't identify, and can't stop you from playing when it matters. This is a summary of Riot's Core Rules, rule 811; where they differ, Riot's current rules win. How a Riftbound turn works →

Why you'd hide a card

The obvious reason is mana. A spell that costs 3 Energy can be hidden for 1 Power on a quiet turn and played for nothing later, which lets you do two things on a turn you could otherwise afford one.

The other reason is information. A facedown card at a battlefield makes your opponent play around everything it could be. Fight or Flight, a Hidden Chaos spell that moves a unit from a battlefield to its base, was strong enough at this that Riot banned it in March 2026, saying it was "best in class in too many scenarios."

The cost is the battlefield. A hidden card only stays while you control the battlefield it's at, so hiding at a battlefield your opponent is about to take wastes the Power and the card.

Hidden cards in tournament decks

Three Hidden cards stood out in Riot's Top 8 report from the Los Angeles Regional Qualifier in late September 2026. Zhonya's Hourglass was in four of the eight decks. Both Azir decks played 3 Hidden Blade, and both Irelia decks played 3 Tideturner.

Zhonya's Hourglass shows why Hidden matters. Played from your hand it costs 2 Energy; hidden, it waits at the battlefield and comes down for free when your opponent tries to kill your unit. The best Riftbound cards →

Cards that care about Hidden

Hidden is mostly a Chaos and Mind mechanic, and its Legend is Origins' Teemo, Swift Scout, a Mind and Chaos Legend that lets you pay 1 Energy to hide a card instead of 1 Power. Teemo's Signature spell, Guerilla Warfare, returns two Hidden cards from your trash and lets you hide cards ignoring costs that turn.

A few other cards reward a facedown card. Mushroom Pouch draws a card at the start of your turn if you control one, Ember Monk gets +2 Might when you play a card from Hidden, and Monster Harpoon deals 4 instead of 2. Against Hidden, Noxus Saboteur stops opponents' hidden cards being revealed at its battlefield, and Mystic Vortex, a Vendetta battlefield, makes Reaction cards, hidden ones included, cost 1 Power more during showdowns there.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Hidden mean in Riftbound?

Hidden is a keyword that lets you place a card facedown at a battlefield you control on your turn, paying 1 Power of any domain. From your next turn on, you can play it from there as a Reaction without paying its cost. The reminder text on the card reads: Hide now for [Any Power] to react with later for [0].

Can my opponent see my hidden card?

They can see that a facedown card is there, but not what it is. A few cards change that: Scuttle Crab's Deathknell lets you look at an opponent's facedown cards that turn.

What happens to a hidden card if I lose the battlefield?

It only stays hidden there for as long as you control that battlefield, so losing control of the battlefield loses you the hidden card. Hide cards at a battlefield you expect to keep.

How many Hidden cards are in Riftbound?

38 cards in the released sets have Hidden as of October 2, 2026, counting each card once: 22 spells, 14 units and 2 gear.

Does Riftbound have hidden or secret rare cards?

Not by that name. If you're looking for the rarest printings, those are the overnumbered cards, numbered past the set's total (301/298), and the signature printings marked with an asterisk (301*/298).
