Top rarity Gold Rare

Gold Series is a 45-card reprint set released April 2, 2008, with codes GLD1-EN001 to GLD1-EN045. Every card in it had been printed before, most first in the 2003 and 2004 sets.

It introduced Gold Rare, a rarity with gold foil on the card's name, artwork border and frame. Eighteen cards are Gold Rares, among them Jinzo, Dark Magician of Chaos, Cyber Dragon, Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and Mirror Force, and the other 27 are Commons.

TCGplayer prices the set only as Limited Edition, and the catalog has no 1st Edition or Unlimited price for it, so the prices here are Limited Edition.

Cards and rarities

Gold Series has 45 set codes, each starting GLD1-EN and printed under the artwork on the right. Where a card comes at more than one rarity, every version shares its code, so the table counts set codes at each rarity and a code printed at two rarities is counted twice.

RarityCardsWhat they are
Common27
Gold Rare18Eighteen cards, from Jinzo (GLD1-EN003) to Torrential Tribute (GLD1-EN040).

Each code is printed at a single rarity, so the rows add up to the set's 45 cards. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts the distinct set codes you own against the set's total, so a card printed at two rarities counts once, with an every-rarity count beside it for collectors chasing each version. The Gold Rares

The Gold Rares are what collectors open the set for: reprints of some of the best-known cards from the game's first six years.

Cards worth knowing

Gold Series also reprints several Spells and Traps. Heavy Storm and Rivalry of Warlords are Forbidden and Reinforcement of the Army and Skill Drain are Limited.

The chase card: Crush Card Virus

Set code GLD1-EN038
Limited market price, October 23, 2026 $105.98

The Gold Rare Crush Card Virus (GLD1-EN038) was the set's most valuable card on October 23, 2026, at $105.98 as Limited Edition. The Gold Rare Mirror Force was next at $41.53.

It is a Normal Trap. You Tribute a DARK monster with 1000 or less ATK; your opponent takes no damage until the end of the next turn, and you look at their hand and monsters and destroy those with 1500 or more ATK, then keep checking the cards they draw for three turns.

Rarity is in the foil rather than the set code, so check it before you price the copy in your hand. Reading the set code and rarity →

Playing it

4 cards from Gold Series are on the Forbidden & Limited List as of October 23, 2026: Heavy Storm and Rivalry of Warlords are Forbidden; Reinforcement of the Army and Skill Drain are Limited. A Forbidden card cannot be played at all and a Limited card at one copy per deck; the rest of the set can be run at three.

Every card in the set is a reprint, so a Gold Series copy plays the same as the original printing.
