Overview

Legacy of Darkness is a 101-card set released June 6, 2003, with codes LOD-000 to LOD-100. All 101 cards were new.

Ten of its monsters are Spirit Monsters: they cannot be Special Summoned and return to their owner's hand in the End Phase of the turn they are Normal Summoned or flipped. Yata-Garasu, Yamata Dragon and Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi are the best known.

The set also built up Warriors, with Reinforcement of the Army, Exiled Force, Marauding Captain and Freed the Matchless General, and four of its cards are Forbidden today: Fiber Jar, Smoke Grenade of the Thief, Royal Oppression and Last Turn.

Cards and rarities

Legacy of Darkness has 101 set codes, each starting LOD- and printed under the artwork on the right. Where a card comes at more than one rarity, every version shares its code, so the table counts set codes at each rarity and a code printed at two rarities is counted twice.

Each LOD- code is printed at a single rarity, so the rows add up to the set's 101 cards. Spirits and Warriors

The set's two groups are its Spirit Monsters and its Warrior support. These are the cards from each that players remember.

Yata-Garasu

A Level 2 Spirit Monster that returns to the hand in the End Phase. When it deals battle damage, your opponent skips their next Draw Phase.

Yamata Dragon

LOD-067

A Level 7 Spirit Dragon with 2600 ATK. When it deals battle damage, you draw until you have 5 cards in hand.

Reinforcement of the Army

LOD-028

Add 1 Level 4 or lower Warrior from your Deck to your hand. It is Limited.

Marauding Captain

LOD-018

When Normal Summoned it can Special Summon a Level 4 or lower monster from your hand, and your opponent cannot target your other Warriors for attacks.

Injection Fairy Lily

LOD-100

When it battles, you can pay 2000 LP once per battle to give it 3000 more ATK for that damage calculation. It is the set's other Secret Rare.

Airknight Parshath

LOD-062

A Level 5 Fairy that inflicts piercing damage and draws a card whenever it deals battle damage to your opponent.

Exiled Force

Tribute it to destroy 1 monster on the field.

Fiber Jar

LOD-056

When flipped, each player shuffles their hand, field and GY into the Deck and draws 5. It is Forbidden.

The 1st Edition Secret Rare Yata-Garasu (LOD-000) is Legacy of Darkness's chase card. It was $99.11 on October 23, 2026, just ahead of the 1st Edition Secret Rare Injection Fairy Lily at $89.60.

The Unlimited copy of LOD-000 was $36.36 that day.

It is a Level 2 WIND Fiend Spirit Monster with 200 ATK. It cannot be Special Summoned, returns to the hand in the End Phase of the turn it is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up, and makes your opponent skip their next Draw Phase when it deals battle damage.

A Forbidden card cannot be played at all and a Limited card at one copy per deck; the rest of the set can be run at three.

A Spirit Monster leaves the field on its own at the end of each turn you summon it, which protects it from your opponent's removal but costs you a Normal Summon each time you want it back.
