Printings priced Normal (91), Holofoil (19), Reverse Holofoil (101), stamped or promo (3)

Legendary Collection came out on May 24, 2002, between Neo Destiny and the e-Card series. Every one of its 110 cards shares its name with a card from the Base series: 55 from Base Set, 21 from Jungle, 22 from Fossil and 12 from Team Rocket.

It is the first set in the catalog with Reverse Holofoil copies, 101 of its cards, where the holofoil covers the card rather than the art. Those copies are worth several times the regular ones. The catalog files the set under "Other" rather than a series; this guide groups it with the Base series it reprints.

Cards and rarities

Legendary Collection has 110 cards. Every card shows its number over the printed total along the bottom, as in "4/110". The cards print a set symbol, not a set code; the code here is the short one the catalog and TurnZero HQ file the set under.

RarityCardsWhat they are

The printed total is 110 and nothing is numbered above it. 101 cards also have a Reverse Holofoil copy, priced separately on each card's page. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts a set against its printed total and keeps the secret rares apart, so finishing the main set and chasing the cards above it read as two separate goals. Its Reverse Holofoil copy is in another league, at $4,250.00. The catalog also prices a Deck Exclusive copy at $160.26, and that is the copy the set value below counts, being the cheapest.

Gengar ($289.99) and Dark Blastoise ($274.99) follow the regular Charizard.

These are each card's headline TCGplayer market price on October 22, 2026. Prices can move a long way, most of all in a set's first months, so treat them as a snapshot. Each card's page shows today's price for every variant and its 90-day chart. How Pokémon card prices work →

What a complete set costs

One copy of every card in Legendary Collection, bought as singles, cost $2,157.86 on October 22, 2026. That is the most expensive of the six sets in the Base series.

Complete set $2,157.86
Top three cards $689.92 (32%)

The three most valuable cards, Gengar, Dark Dragonite and Charizard, come to $689.92, or 32% of the total. Without them the set costs $1,467.94. Of the 110 cards, 47 were under $2.00, together $51.92; the other 63 add up to $2,105.94.

Each card is counted at its cheapest priced variant, usually a Normal copy rather than a Reverse Holofoil, or a stamped promo copy where the catalog prices one lower, at its TCGplayer market price. This is what it costs to buy the set as singles. It is not what opening packs returns, and not what a complete set would sell for, which after fees and the many cards worth cents would be noticeably less.

Playing it

Legendary Collection is not legal in Standard or Expanded as a set: Expanded starts with the Black & White series in 2011. The catalog marks four of its 110 cards as legal anyway, two of them in Standard too.

They are Energy Retrieval and Potion, legal in both formats; and Caterpie and Weedle, legal in Expanded only.

Each shares its name and text with a later, legal printing, which is what makes an older copy playable. Every other card in the set is legal in neither format.
