Pokémon TCG · 2001 Set Guide
A short Neo set of 75 cards: Umbreon and Espeon, Tyranitar, and ten Unown, the first in the card game.
Neo Discovery came out on June 1, 2001, with 75 cards: 71 Pokémon and 4 Trainers, and no Energy. It continued the Johto Pokémon of Neo Genesis with Espeon, Umbreon, Tyranitar and Scizor among its holos.
It printed the first Unown, ten of them, each a letter, and two more Baby Pokémon. As in Jungle and Fossil, several Pokémon appear as both a holo and a non-holo Rare.
Neo Discovery has 75 cards. Every card shows its number over the printed total along the bottom, as in "4/75". The cards print a set symbol, not a set code; the code here is the short one the catalog and TurnZero HQ file the set under.
The printed total is 75 and nothing is numbered above it. The catalog prices one holo, Umbreon, in Unlimited only. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts a set against its printed total and keeps the secret rares apart, so finishing the main set and chasing the cards above it read as two separate goals. Neo Discovery's chase card is the Umbreon holo, 13/75, illustrated by Kimiya Masago, at $817.16 on October 22, 2026. The catalog prices it in Unlimited only, with no 1st Edition figure.
Tyranitar ($146.50) is next among the holos. The non-holo Umbreon, 32/75, was $117.13, more than most of the set's holos.
Espeon's prices are inverted in the catalog (see the note under the table), so it is left off the list.
| Version | Number | Market price, October 22, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Rare Holo, Unlimited | 13/75 | $817.16 |
| Rare, Unlimited | 32/75 | $117.13 |
Only the exact version is worth its price. The number at the bottom of the card and the rarity symbol beside it tell you which one you pulled. Reading the number and rarity symbol →
Holos and the non-holo Umbreon, priced as Unlimited copies. Left off the list: Espeon (Rare Holo, $365.17 Unlimited against $237.50 1st Edition). The catalog prices its Unlimited copy above the 1st Edition, the reverse of the rest of the set, which looks like a data error.
| Card | Rarity | Market price, October 22, 2026 |

These are each card's headline TCGplayer market price on October 22, 2026. Prices can move a long way, most of all in a set's first months, so treat them as a snapshot. Each card's page shows today's price for every variant and its 90-day chart. How Pokémon card prices work →
One copy of every card in Neo Discovery, bought as singles, cost $2,387.34 on October 22, 2026. That is the third most expensive of the four sets in the Neo series.
The three most valuable cards, Umbreon, Espeon and Tyranitar, come to $1,201.16, or 50% of the total. Without them the set costs $1,186.18. Of the 75 cards, 29 were under $2.00, together $28.71; the other 46 add up to $2,358.63.
Each card is counted at its cheapest priced variant, usually an Unlimited copy rather than a 1st Edition one, or a stamped or error copy where the catalog prices one lower, at its TCGplayer market price. This is what it costs to buy the set as singles. It is not what opening packs returns, and not what a complete set would sell for, which after fees and the many cards worth cents would be noticeably less.
The catalog marks every card in Neo Discovery as legal in neither Standard nor Expanded, the two formats Play! Pokémon sanctions. Expanded starts with the Black & White series in 2011.
