Disney Lorcana

How to Build a Lorcana Deck

A Disney Lorcana deck is at least 60 cards, up to 4 copies of each card, in no more than two inks. Here are the rules for Core Constructed and Infinity, a build process that works for a first deck, and how the TurnZero HQ deck builder checks the result.

The rules every Lorcana deck follows

Every Lorcana deck follows three construction rules, in both Core Constructed and Infinity. The TurnZero HQ Deck Lab checks all three.

RuleWhat it means
60 cards minimumThe deck is 60 or more cards, with no upper limit. There is no leader, base or side deck to count separately.
4 copies of a full nameYou can play up to 4 of a card by its full name, the name and version together. Two different versions of a character are two different full names.
Two inks at mostEvery card has an ink color: Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire or Steel. A deck may use one or two of them, never three.

Cards come in four types: characters, actions (songs are a kind of action), items and locations. Characters are the cards that quest for lore and challenge, so most decks are built around them. If a card's layout is new to you, how to read a Lorcana card covers ink, cost, lore and the inkwell symbol.

Core Constructed vs. Infinity Constructed

Both formats use the same deck rules. They differ in which sets your cards can come from.

The Core list changes over time. Set 14, Hyperia City, releases on October 23, 2026 and joins the Core pool, and rotation removes older sets once a year, so check a card's legality on its page before you buy into a deck. Ravensburger's official rules and banned lists are the source if a tournament depends on it, and TurnZero HQ shows Core and Infinity legality on every Lorcana card page. Core is the default format for a new deck in the Deck Lab.

How to build your first Lorcana deck

Start from a plan for how the deck wins, then fill in the parts that support it. Lorcana is a race to 20 lore, so that is the thing to plan around. If the rules of the race are new, read how to play Lorcana first.

StepWhat to doWhy
1. Pick a planChoose a character or theme you like and decide how it gets lore or removes the other player's characters.A deck with one plan draws toward it. A pile of good cards without a plan tends to do a little of everything.
2. Pick one or two inksChoose the ink your plan lives in, then a second only if it adds something the first can't.Two is the limit, and a one-ink deck is legal too. A second ink is worth it when it covers a job, like removal or card draw, that the first does poorly.
3. Start with charactersFill most of the list with characters across a spread of costs, then add actions, items and locations that help.Characters are how you quest and challenge. Without enough of them early there is nothing to do with your turn.
4. Shape the curveCount how many cards you have at each cost. Have plays for turns 1 to 3, a middle, and a few expensive finishers.Your inkwell grows by at most one card a turn, so on turn 3 you usually have 3 ink at most. A deck full of expensive cards spends its early turns doing nothing.
5. Count inkable cardsCheck how many cards have the inkwell symbol. Cards without it can only be played, never put into the inkwell. You want an inkable card to put down most turns. With too few, you skip a turn of inking and fall behind on ink for the rest of the game.
6. Fill to 60 and stay thereCut to exactly 60 unless you have a reason to go over.Extra cards dilute the ones the deck is built around.
7. Check and playtestRun the legality check, look at the opening hand chances, and play games with it.Numbers catch the mistakes you can count. Playing finds the ones you can't.

This page doesn't give a set number of characters, actions and items, because the right split depends on the deck's plan. Any count you read elsewhere is a starting point to change after a few games.

Building a Lorcana deck in TurnZero HQ

The TurnZero HQ deck builder is called the Deck Lab. It is free on iPhone, Android and the web, and Lorcana decks live on your deck shelf beside your decks for other games.

StepWhat to do
1. Start a deckAdd a deck, choose Disney Lorcana, then name it and pick Core Constructed or Infinity Constructed. Core is the default.
2. Pick a templateThe new-deck form lists templates with one marked Recommended, or you can choose Custom and set your own targets. A template gives target counts for the deck's slots, and the deck warns when it is off target.
3. Add the cardsSearch the Lorcana catalog and add cards one at a time, or paste a decklist with lines like "4 Ariel - On Human Legs", the name, a dash and the version. There is no link import for Lorcana.
4. SaveEdits stay in a draft on your device until you tap Save. The numbers on screen come from the server measuring that draft, so they match what you see after saving.

You can also keep a wishlist section in a deck for cards you are considering. It is not counted, checked or exported with the deck.

What the Deck Lab checks and measures

The header of every Deck Lab screen shows the deck's card count against its 60-card minimum, whether it is Legal or has N to fix, and the opening hand's headline chance. Each one opens the screen that explains it, and the "Worth fixing" list on the Deck screen says what to change.

CheckWhat it tells you
Deck sizeWhether you have the 60-card minimum.
Copy limitAny full name over 4 copies.
Ink limitA third ink, with the inks it found named in the message.
Format legalityCards that are not legal in the format you picked, and any card on that format's banned list.

The Deck Lab also shows lenses, which measure the deck without checking it against a rule:

LensWhat it shows
TemplateYour deck against the target counts of the template you chose.
MakeupHow many characters, actions, songs, items and locations the deck has.
CurveCards at each cost, from 1 to 10.
InksHow many cards are inkable, how many inks the deck uses (with a warning past two), and how the cards split between them.
HandThe chance of a good opening hand of 7, including how often it has an inkable card and a low-cost character.
CollectionHow many cards of the deck you own and which you are missing, with their value.

The opening-hand numbers are hypergeometric odds for a 7-card hand from your list, before any mulligan. The collection lens reads your Lorcana collection, so it is only as complete as the cards you have added. To fill that in, see the Lorcana collection tracker, the card scanner, or import and export. Where a missing card can be bought, the deck's Buy missing panel builds a TCGplayer list of only the copies you don't own, which uses an affiliate link.

Two more tools sit in the deck's overflow menu. Sample hand deals an opening hand from your list with Draw, Mulligan and New hand, and Versions keeps a history of a day's building that you can restore. What the Deck Lab does not do for Lorcana is suggest cards, rate the deck or claim a win rate. Deck advice is Magic: The Gathering only today.

Sharing and publishing a Lorcana deck

A deck is private until you publish it. Publishing is opt-in, from the deck's overflow menu, and puts the deck on its own page in the public Lorcana deck gallery. Anyone who opens a published deck can copy it into their own Deck Lab. Once it is published, you can also share it as a picture with a link. Copy decklist gives you the text list for anything else. When you are ready to play it, the Lorcana lore counter tracks the game, with each seat's deck attached. The rest of the Lorcana tools are on the Disney Lorcana hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many cards are in a Lorcana deck?

At least 60. A Lorcana deck has no separate sideboard or extra deck in the Deck Lab: one main list of 60 or more cards. Most players build exactly 60, because every card past the minimum makes you less likely to draw your best cards.

How many copies of a card can you play in Lorcana?

Up to 4 copies of a card by its full name, which means the name and the version together. Ariel - On Human Legs and Ariel - Spectacular Singer are different full names, so they each get their own 4 copies. TurnZero HQ checks this when it checks your deck.

How many inks can a Lorcana deck use?

At most two. The six inks are Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire and Steel. A deck that uses a third ink fails the check in TurnZero HQ with an ink limit issue that names the inks it found.

What is the difference between Core Constructed and Infinity Constructed?

Core Constructed allows only the most recent sets, and older sets rotate out. As of September 2026, sets 9 (Fabled) through 13 (Attack of the Vine!) are Core-legal and sets 1 through 8 are not. Infinity Constructed allows cards from every set, minus its own banned list. The deck construction rules are the same in both.

Is there a free Lorcana deck builder?

Yes. The TurnZero HQ Deck Lab is free on iPhone, Android and the web. You can start a Lorcana deck by typing or pasting a list, add cards by search, and see whether it is Legal for Core Constructed or Infinity, plus its ink split, cost curve and opening-hand chances. Some collection features, like the value chart, are Premium.

Does TurnZero HQ suggest cards for a Lorcana deck?

No. The Deck Lab checks a Lorcana deck and measures it, but deck advice, suggestions and ratings are Magic: The Gathering features today. It also doesn't rank decks or claim to know what wins.

Build your Lorcana deck and check it.

Add cards, see whether the deck is Legal for Core or Infinity, and check its inks, curve and opening hands. Free on iPhone, Android and the web.
