Disney Lorcana
Lorcana has two official constructed formats, Core and Infinity, and four official limited formats, from Sealed to the two-pack Pack Rush. Ravensburger also has a multiplayer format in beta and a line of solo and co-op boxes. Here is what each one asks of your deck, as of October 2026.
A Lorcana format sets three things: how big your deck is, which cards can go in it, and how many inks it can use. Constructed formats use a deck you built at home. Limited formats give you sealed product at the event and you build from what you open. Every row below comes from Ravensburger's Tournament Rules (effective July 14, 2026) and Comprehensive Rules 2.3.0, except where it says beta or product.
Both constructed formats use the same deck rules and differ only in which sets you can draw on. A deck has at least 60 cards, no more than 4 copies of a card by its full name (name plus version, so Ariel - On Human Legs and Ariel - Spectacular Singer are different cards), and cards from no more than two inks. A dual-ink card fits only a deck in exactly its two inks.
Core Constructed is the format of Set Championships and the big championship events. With the release of Attack of the Vine! (set 13) in July 2026, sets 5 to 8 rotated out, joining sets 1 to 4, so Core now starts at Fabled. A card from an older set is still Core-legal if it was reprinted in Fabled or later, because any printing of a legal card can be played. Core Constructed: legal sets, rotation and bans →
Infinity Constructed has no rotation, so every card ever printed is legal except the ones on its own banned list. It is where cards from The First Chapter through Reign of Jafar still see tournament play, and where the starter decks from those sets can still be played. Infinity Constructed: the card pool and its banned list →
Lorcana's banned lists are short. As of the Tournament Rules effective July 14, 2026, which are still the current version on Ravensburger's Resources page in October 2026, they read:
Hiram and Fortisphere were the game's first bans, about 20 months after the August 2023 launch. Hiram is from set 2 and Fortisphere from set 4, so both left Core when sets 1 to 4 rotated out with Fabled in 2025, which is why the Core list is empty now. Ravensburger said a ban takes a card out of tournament play only; it is still a Disney Lorcana card for casual games.
Limited formats give everyone the same unopened product at the event, so nobody needs to bring cards. The deck rules loosen to match: you can play any number of inks and as many copies of a card as you open. The Tournament Rules' own example is a player who opens six copies of Genie - The Ever Impressive and plays all six.
Sealed is the prerelease format. Ravensburger's Hyperia City kit recommends six boosters per player for prerelease Sealed, the same as the minimum, and every player gets the same number of packs from each set used.
Draft seats players in pods, ideally of eight and no fewer than six. You open a pack, keep one card and pass the rest to your left, then take one from the pack passed to you, until the pack is gone. The second pack passes to the right, and the direction alternates from there. In a Competitive Draft you only play against people from your own pod.
Preconstructed hands each player a random starter deck from the chosen set, and the store decides whether you can swap in cards from the deck's booster or other product. It can only be run as an entry-level event, which makes it a gentle first tournament. Every Lorcana starter deck, rated →
Pack Rush is the fastest official way to play: each player shuffles two unopened booster packs into a deck and plays one game. The Tournament Rules list it as a Limited format, and the Comprehensive Rules (section 10.2) also treat it as a casual variant you can play anywhere. Ravensburger's Hyperia City kit offers it beside Sealed for prerelease events.
The marketing cards in your inkwell can't leave it and can't be chosen by effects. Everything else is the normal game, so Pack Rush is also a quick way to teach someone with the packs you just opened. The normal rules Pack Rush builds on →
Format Coconut is Ravensburger's multiplayer format, in open beta since July 28, 2026, and the nearest thing Lorcana has to Magic's Commander. Ravensburger recommends three or four players. Each builds a singleton deck of 60 cards or more in up to three inks around a Coconut card, chosen in the Disney Lorcana companion app, and players race to 25 lore. You can run 4 copies of the character card tied to your Coconut and 1 of everything else.
It uses the multiplayer rules in section 9 of the Comprehensive Rules, which any group can also use for a casual game of three or more with normal decks. Because Coconut is a beta, its rules and card list can change before it launches. Coconut rules and all 24 Coconut cards →
Illumineer's Quest is a line of boxed adventures where you play against the game instead of another player. Each box has a scenario deck that plays itself as the villain, prebuilt 60-card decks for the players, and its own rules sheet. The scenario deck's cards have a different back from standard cards, and Comprehensive Rules 1.4.2 says they are not standard Disney Lorcana cards, so they can't go into a normal deck.
Deep Trouble and Palace Heist set their difficulty with battleground cards; Ravensburger's page for Deep Trouble says the first two suit beginners. In Deep Trouble the players take their turns at the same time, which matches the simultaneous-turn rules in section 9.3 of the Comprehensive Rules. The Great Hunny Rescue swaps battlegrounds for Encounter cards: rooms inside the Vine where you gain enough lore to free a trapped friend before you move on.
Ravensburger hasn't posted the Illumineer's Quest rules sheets on its Resources page, so for the full rules you need the sheet in the box.
It depends on what you have and who you play with. A few common starting points:
Store schedules vary, so ask your local store which formats it runs before you build for one. How to build a Lorcana deck →
TurnZero HQ's Deck Lab checks a Lorcana deck against Core Constructed or Infinity Constructed: 60 cards or more, no more than 4 of a full name, no more than two inks, and whether each card is legal in the format you picked. Core is the default for a new deck. Every Lorcana card page shows its Core and Infinity legality too. The card legality comes from the catalog, which does not yet mark Infinity's one banned card, so check that ban yourself.
The Deck Lab has no Limited, Pack Rush, Coconut or Illumineer's Quest mode, and the game tracker plays Lorcana to 20 lore. For a tournament, Ravensburger's current Tournament Rules are the source for legal sets and banned cards. How the Lorcana collection tracker works →
Ravensburger's Tournament Rules name two Constructed formats, Core and Infinity, and four Limited formats: Preconstructed, Sealed, Pack Rush and Draft. Outside tournaments there is Format Coconut, a multiplayer format in open beta, and the Illumineer's Quest boxes, where you play against a scenario deck instead of another player.
Core Constructed. It is the format of Set Championships and of the 2026 North American and European Championships, and it's the default format for a new Lorcana deck in TurnZero HQ's Deck Lab. As of October 2026 it uses sets 9 (Fabled) through 14 (Hyperia City).
The card pool. Core Constructed allows only recent sets and rotates the oldest ones out once a year; Infinity Constructed allows every set. The deck rules are the same (at least 60 cards, no more than 4 of a full name, no more than two inks), and each format has its own banned list.
As of October 2026, sets 9 to 14: Fabled, Whispers in the Well, Winterspell, Wilds Unknown, Attack of the Vine! and Hyperia City. Sets 1 to 8 are not Core-legal, though a card from them can still be played if it was reprinted in Fabled or later.
One, as of October 2026: Hiram Flaversham - Toymaker is banned in Infinity Constructed, effective March 26, 2026. Core Constructed has no banned cards. Hiram and Fortisphere were banned in Core on April 8, 2025, but both have since rotated out of the format.
At least 40, built from at least six booster packs opened at the event. A Draft deck needs at least 35 cards from at least four packs. In both, you can play any number of inks and any number of copies of a card.
Format Coconut is the closest, and it is still in open beta as of October 2026. It is a multiplayer, singleton format of 60 cards or more in up to three inks, built around a Coconut card and played to 25 lore.
Yes, with an Illumineer's Quest box. Deep Trouble, Palace Heist and The Great Hunny Rescue each pit you, alone or with a friend, against a scenario deck that plays itself. Deep Trouble supports up to four players if you add two more decks.
The Deck Lab checks a Lorcana deck against Core Constructed or Infinity as you build, with its ink split, cost curve and opening-hand odds. Free on iPhone, Android and the web.
