Disney Lorcana Beginner Series
You win a game of Disney Lorcana by reaching 20 lore before your opponent does. This page covers every way a game ends, where lore comes from, and how new players can think about the race, as of the Comprehensive Rules version 2.3.0 (October 16, 2026).
There are three, and the first is how almost every game ends.
Format Coconut, Ravensburger's multiplayer format in open beta, raises the target to 25 lore; the Coconut format guide covers its other rules. One card changes the target in a normal game: Donald Duck - Flustered Sorcerer makes its controller's opponents need 25 lore. It is from Archazia's Island, so it is legal in Infinity but not in Core Constructed.
Every player starts at 0. Questing is the main source: exert a dry, ready character and gain lore equal to the lore value printed beside its rules text. Most characters have 1 or 2 lore, and a few have more.
Lore can go down: some cards make a player lose lore, but it never drops below 0. Because the game checks for 20 after every action, you win the moment you reach it. Lore from a location in the Set step can win before you draw your card.
Under the current Comprehensive Rules, a player whose own turn ends with no cards in their deck loses. Drawing your last card doesn't lose, and trying to draw from an empty deck just draws nothing. You still have the rest of that turn to reach 20 lore, and an empty deck on your opponent's turn doesn't matter until your own turn ends.
Some guides, and Ravensburger's Quick Start book, say you lose the next time you would draw from an empty deck. The Comprehensive Rules are the current rule. With a 60-card deck and one draw a turn, decking out is rare, but it can happen in a long game or against cards that make you draw extra.
Lorcana is a race, and every quest is a tradeoff. A character that quests is exerted until your next turn, and only exerted characters can be challenged, so questing puts the character within your opponent's reach. A character that stays ready can't be challenged, but it gains you nothing.
Challenging is the other side. Banishing a character that quests for 2 every turn denies your opponent that lore for the rest of the game, but it costs you the lore your challenger would have made. The Lorcana challenge rules explain how the damage works, and the guide to Lorcana turns covers when in your turn each choice happens.
These hold in most games, though the right play always depends on the board and both players' lore.
Your inks shape which of these you lean on. A deck with lots of Evasive and Ward characters tends to race, and a deck with Resist and Challenger tends to challenge. The Lorcana ink colors guide and the keywords guide show which inks lean which way. To keep score at the table, the Lorcana lore counter page covers dials, dice and tracking a game in TurnZero HQ.
Be the first player to reach 20 lore. You gain lore mostly by questing with characters, and also from locations and some songs and abilities. You also win if your opponent ends their own turn with no cards in their deck, or concedes.
20 lore in a standard two-player game, in both Core Constructed and Infinity. Format Coconut, the multiplayer format in open beta, is played to 25. One card, Donald Duck - Flustered Sorcerer, makes its controller's opponents need 25 lore to win.
A player whose own turn ends with no cards in their deck loses. Drawing your last card, or being unable to draw, doesn't lose the game by itself, so you have the rest of that turn to reach 20 lore. Some older guides and the Quick Start book describe this differently; the Comprehensive Rules are the current rule.
Yes. The game checks for 20 lore after every action and every step of the start of the turn, so you win the moment you reach it, even during your opponent's turn or from a location before you draw.
Yes. Some cards make a player lose lore, such as A Pirate's Life, which makes each opponent lose 2. Lore never goes below 0.
Only the three in the rules: reaching the lore total, your opponent ending a turn with an empty deck, and your opponent conceding. No card wins the game outright as of October 2026.
The Comprehensive Rules don't state a winner for that case directly; they say only that results from one check happen in turn order. It is rare, since lore usually comes one character at a time, but if it happens at an event, call a judge.
