Overview

Release date February 6, 2013
Set code PLS
Cards 135 numbered, 138 in total
Series Black & White
Complete set as singles $4,671.64 on Oct 22
Regulation mark None, printed before regulation marks

Plasma Storm is the eighth Black & White set: 135 cards up to the printed total and three secret rares above it, Charizard, Blastoise and Random Receiver (136 to 138).

It started the Team Plasma block, followed by Plasma Freeze and Plasma Blast. Team Plasma cards carry their own tag, and many of them check for Plasma Energy: Lugia-EX's Plasma Gale does 120 but discards a Plasma Energy, and does nothing without one. Lugia-EX's Overflow takes one more Prize card when its attack Knocks Out a Pokémon.

Cards and rarities

Plasma Storm has 138 cards. Every card shows its number over the printed total along the bottom, as in "1/135", next to the set code PLS.

The printed total is 135, so the 3 cards from 136 to 138 are secret rares. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts a set against its printed total and keeps the secret rares apart, so finishing the main set and chasing the cards above it read as two separate goals. How set completion works →

What a complete set costs

One copy of every card in Plasma Storm, bought as singles, cost $4,671.64 on October 22, 2026. That is the second most expensive of the twelve sets in the Black & White series.

Complete set $4,671.64
Main set, 1 to 135 $3,480.67
3 secret rares $1,190.97
Top three cards $3,369.22 (72%)

The three most valuable cards, Lugia-EX, Charizard and Blastoise, come to $3,369.22, or 72% of the total. Without them the set costs $1,302.42. Of the 138 cards, 97 were under $2.00, together $56.20; the other 41 add up to $4,615.44.

Each card is counted at its cheapest priced variant, a Normal copy rather than a Reverse Holofoil where both exist, at its TCGplayer market price. This is what it costs to buy the set as singles. It is not what opening packs returns, and not what a complete set would sell for, which after fees and the many cards worth cents would be noticeably less.

Playing it

No Plasma Storm card carries a regulation mark, so none is Standard-legal as printed. Standard has allowed only the H, I and J marks since April 10, 2026. Every card in Plasma Storm is legal in Expanded, which takes every set from Black & White on.

A reprint with a legal mark makes older printings of the same card legal again, so check a card's name before you rule it out.
