Disney Lorcana
Core Constructed is Disney Lorcana's main tournament format: 60-card decks in two inks, built from the most recent sets. As of October 2026 that is sets 9 to 14, Fabled through Hyperia City, with no banned cards. Here is how rotation works and what it means for your cards.
Core shares its deck rules with Infinity Constructed and differs in the card pool. Every row comes from Ravensburger's Tournament Rules, effective July 14, 2026.
Six sets are Core-legal. A new set becomes legal in sanctioned Constructed events on the day of its hobby-store prerelease, so Hyperia City joined on October 16, 2026, a week before its wide release.
Promo and alternate versions of cards follow their set. The Tournament Rules say a preview or promo card becomes legal when its set does and rotates when its set does, whenever the promo itself came out. Every Lorcana set, with a guide to each →
Once a year, Lorcana rotates its four oldest sets out of Core. Ravensburger's August 2026 explainer gives that cadence, and the Tournament Rules record each rotation as it happens:
Rotation follows a card's name, not its printing. If a card is legal in Core, any printing of it can be played there, so a card first printed in set 1 to 8 is still Core-legal if a card with the same full name was reprinted in Fabled or later. A reprint with new art counts. A card with the same character but a different version, such as another Belle, is a different card and doesn't carry the old one with it.
As of October 24, 2026, Ravensburger hasn't announced the next rotation. The Tournament Rules say only that additional rotations will be added in future updates. If the yearly pattern holds, it would come in 2027, but which sets and when are not confirmed, so don't plan a purchase around a guess.
Core has no banned cards as of the Tournament Rules effective July 14, 2026. It has had two: on April 8, 2025, Ravensburger banned Hiram Flaversham - Toymaker and Fortisphere, the first bans since the game launched in August 2023.
Hiram Flaversham - Toymaker
Rise of the Floodborn #149
Banned in Core April 2025; set 2, now rotated out. Still banned in Infinity.
Fortisphere
Ursula's Return #200
Banned in Core April 2025; set 4, now rotated out. Legal in Infinity.
The two worked together. Fortisphere is a 1-cost item that draws a card when you play it, and Hiram can banish one of your items to draw 2 cards when you play him and each time he quests. Both have since left Core with their sets, so the ban list is empty. Hiram is still banned in Infinity. Infinity Constructed and its banned list →
A Core deck follows the Constructed rules in section 1.3.1.1 of the Tournament Rules:
A few cards change these rules for your deck. Comprehensive Rules 1.10.1.3 gives Christopher Robin - Hunny Sage as the example: he is Amethyst and Sapphire, and his Gather the Party ability lets you include other Hunny characters regardless of ink. Such an ability only applies if the card itself could be in your deck.
Core is the format of Lorcana's biggest constructed events. The 2026 North American Championship (August 28 to 30, Disneyland Resort) and European Championship (September 11 to 13, Disneyland Paris) both ran Core with sets 9 to 13. Hyperia City Set Championships run in Core Constructed on weekends from January 2 to 24, 2027, with Competitive rules enforcement and 60-minute best-of-three Swiss rounds.
Stores can also run Core as weekly play; Ravensburger's kits list it beside Infinity, Pack Rush, Draft and Sealed. Disney Lorcana Challenge events use Core or Infinity depending on the event, so check each one's page.
Rotation doesn't make old cards unplayable. It moves them to Infinity. A First Chapter deck is still legal in Infinity Constructed and at any kitchen table. What changes is where you can bring it to a Core event.
For starter decks, as sold: of the 23 decks in TurnZero HQ's directory, the six from Fabled, Whispers in the Well and the Wilds Unknown 2-Player Starter Set are Core-legal as of October 2026. Decks from sets 1 to 8 are Infinity only, apart from any cards in them that were reprinted in Fabled or later. Every starter deck, with its Core legality →
Core is the default format for a new Lorcana deck in TurnZero HQ's Deck Lab. It checks the deck as you build: 60 cards or more, no more than 4 of a full name, no more than two inks, and whether each card is legal in Core. Every Lorcana card page shows its Core and Infinity legality, so you can check a single card before you trade for it. For a tournament, Ravensburger's current Tournament Rules are the final word.
Core Constructed is Disney Lorcana's main competitive format. You bring a deck of at least 60 cards in no more than two inks, with no more than 4 copies of a card by full name, built only from the recent sets in the current rotation. Older sets rotate out once a year.
As of October 2026, sets 9 to 14: Fabled, Whispers in the Well, Winterspell, Wilds Unknown, Attack of the Vine! and Hyperia City. Hyperia City became legal at its prerelease on October 16, 2026, because new sets are legal in sanctioned events from their hobby-store prerelease.
Ravensburger hasn't announced it as of October 24, 2026. Its rotation explainer says the four oldest sets rotate out once a year, and the last two rotations came with set 9 (2025) and set 13 (July 2026). The Tournament Rules say future rotations will be added in later updates, so watch for the next version.
Sets 1 to 4 (The First Chapter to Ursula's Return) rotated out with the release of Fabled, set 9. Sets 5 to 8 (Shimmering Skies, Azurite Sea, Archazia's Island and Reign of Jafar) rotated out with Attack of the Vine!, set 13, in July 2026. Those cards are still legal in Infinity Constructed.
Yes. If a card is legal in Core, any printing of it is legal, including the old one. So a card first printed in set 1 to 8 can be played in Core if a card with the same full name was reprinted in Fabled or later. A card with the same name but a different version is a different card and doesn't count.
No, as of the Tournament Rules effective July 14, 2026. Hiram Flaversham - Toymaker and Fortisphere were banned in Core on April 8, 2025, the game's first bans, but both come from sets that have since rotated out.
Only the recent ones, as sold. Of the 23 decks in TurnZero HQ's starter deck directory, the six from Fabled, Whispers in the Well and the Wilds Unknown 2-Player Starter Set are Core-legal. Decks from sets 1 to 8 are legal in Infinity Constructed.
