The New Challengers Card List and Set Guide

Overview

The New Challengers released November 6, 2014, with 100 cards under the NECH set code: 44 Commons, 4 Short Prints, 20 Rares, 14 Super Rares, 10 Ultra Rares and 8 Secret Rares, with 5 Ultimate Rares and 1 Ghost Rare printed on top of some of those codes.

95 of the 100 cards were new to the TCG. The other five, including Shaddoll Hound and Hexatellarknight, have an earlier printing in the catalog from September 2014.

Qliphort gets the most cards, nine, Machine Pendulum Monsters that stop you Special Summoning anything but Qli monsters while they sit in your Pendulum Zones. Fluffal and Edge Imp introduce a Fusion theme, and Superheavy Samurai, Melodious and Burning Abyss get five cards each.

Cards and rarities

The New Challengers has 100 set codes, each starting NECH-EN and printed under the artwork on the right. Where a card comes at more than one rarity, every version shares its code, so the table counts set codes at each rarity and a code printed at two rarities is counted twice.

The five Ultimate Rares and the Ghost Rare share their codes with a lower printing of the same card, which is why the rows add up to 106 printings for 100 set codes. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts the distinct set codes you own against the set's total, so a card printed at two rarities counts once, with an every-rarity count beside it for collectors chasing each version. Archetypes

Qliphort and Fluffal are new in The New Challengers. Shaddoll, Yang Zing and Tellarknight, which started in Duelist Alliance, each get a new Extra Deck monster.

Qliphort Scout

NECH-EN021

A Pendulum Normal Monster with Scale 9. In the Pendulum Zone it pays 800 LP once per turn to add another Qli card from your Deck to your hand, and you cannot Special Summon anything but Qli monsters.

Qliphort Helix

NECH-EN023

A Level 6 Qliphort you can Normal Summon without Tributing at Level 4. Normal Summoned, it is unaffected by activated effects of lower-Level monsters, and when Tributed it destroys a Spell or Trap.

Fluffal Bear

NECH-EN016

Send it from your hand to Set Toy Vendor from your Deck, or Tribute it to return Polymerization from your GY to your hand.

Frightfur Bear

NECH-EN046

A Fusion of Edge Imp Sabres and Fluffal Bear. When it destroys a monster by battle, it equips that monster to itself for 1000 ATK.

El Shaddoll Shekhinaga

NECH-EN049

A Level 10 Shaddoll Fusion for a Shaddoll and an EARTH monster. Once per turn it negates and destroys a Special Summoned monster whose effect activates, by sending a Shaddoll card from your hand to the GY.

Stellarknight Triverr

NECH-EN054

A Rank 4 for 3 tellarknight monsters. When Xyz Summoned it returns every other card on the field to the hand, and it detaches to discard a random card from your opponent's hand.

Cards worth knowing

Four more cards from the set. Herald of the Arc Light is one of its two cards on the Forbidden & Limited List.

Number 99: Utopic Dragon

NECH-EN099

A Rank 10 with 4000 ATK that can also be Xyz Summoned on a Utopia by discarding a Rank-Up-Magic Spell. It revives a Number from your GY once per turn and detaches to negate effects that target it.

Yazi, Evil of the Yang Zing

NECH-EN051

A Level 7 Yang Zing Synchro your opponent cannot target. It destroys one of your Yang Zing and one of your opponent's cards, and when destroyed it Special Summons a Wyrm from your Deck.

Solemn Scolding

NECH-EN079

A Counter Trap that only works as your only Set Spell or Trap. Pay 3000 LP to negate a Summon or an activated card or effect and destroy it.

Zaborg the Mega Monarch

NECH-EN037

A Level 8 Monarch that destroys a monster when Tribute Summoned. If that monster was LIGHT, both players send cards from their Extra Deck to the GY, up to its Level or Rank.

The chase card: Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon

Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon

NECH-EN053

Rarity Ghost Rare

Set code NECH-EN053

1st Edition market price, October 22, 2026 $78.18

The Ghost Rare Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon (NECH-EN053) is The New Challengers' chase card. It was $78.18 on October 22, 2026, more than three times the next card, the Ultimate Rare El Shaddoll Shekhinaga at $22.52.

It is a Rank 4 DARK Dragon Xyz Monster for 2 Level 4 monsters, with 2500 ATK. It can detach 2 materials to halve the ATK of a face-up monster your opponent controls and gain the ATK that monster lost.

It also comes as an Ultimate Rare and a Secret Rare in the set, both with the NECH-EN053 code, so check the foil before you price a copy.

Playing it

Two cards in The New Challengers are on the Forbidden & Limited List as of October 23, 2026. Herald of the Arc Light is Forbidden, and Naturia Sacred Tree is Limited.

Qliphort monsters are Pendulum Monsters first: their Scale 1 and Scale 9 in the Pendulum Zones let you Pendulum Summon the Level 5 to 8 Qliphorts, but only Qli monsters, which is the cost of the theme.

Fluffal and Edge Imp cards are built around Polymerization and the Frightfur Fusion Monsters, with Toy Vendor and Fluffal Bear finding the pieces.
