One Piece Card Game

Best One Piece Cards

The best One Piece card for your deck depends on your Leader. What doesn't depend on it is the evidence: the cards Bandai had to ban, the ones it reprinted as 'The Best', and the curve every card is measured against. This guide covers all three, and the cards collectors want most.

Five One Piece cards Bandai has banned fanned out: the Alternate Art Nami Leader, the Trafalgar Law Leader, the Alternate Art Dracule Mihawk Leader in front, the Alternate Art Gecko Moria and the SP Charlotte Pudding.

The short answer

There is no single best One Piece card, because every card in your deck has to share a color with your Leader. A strong blue card does nothing for a red deck. So "best" means one of two things: the strongest cards for the Leader you play, or the cards collectors want most. This guide grounds both in evidence rather than a tier list. For play, that evidence is Bandai's own ban list. For collecting, it is what cards sell for.

Too strong: the cards Bandai banned

The surest sign a card was among the best is that Bandai banned it. Bandai says it weighs a deck's win rate, major tournament results, usage, its likely effect on future play and whether it stops other Leaders from being viable. These six cards are banned on the list effective October 12, 2026:

CardTypeWhat made it strong
Dracule Mihawk (OP14‑020)Leader, greenOnce per turn, by resting one of your cards, if there is a Character with a cost of 5 or more, it sets up to 3 of your DON!! cards active again. That is three extra DON!! a turn, at the price of playing no more Characters that turn. Banned from October 12, 2026.
Charlotte Pudding (OP06‑047)Character, blue, 4 costOn play, your opponent shuffles their whole hand into their deck and draws 5, throwing away a hand they had planned around.
Nami (OP03‑040)Leader, blueRunning out of deck wins you the game instead of losing it, which turned a usual weakness into the deck's goal.
Gecko Moria (OP06‑086)Character, black, 8 costOn play, it brings back a cost 4 or less and a cost 2 or less Character from your trash: three bodies for one card.
Trafalgar Law (ST10‑001)Leader, purple and redOnce per turn, DON!! -3 places an opponent's Character with 3000 power or less at the bottom of its owner's deck and plays a cost 4 or less Character from your hand.
Reject (OP06‑116)Event, yellow, 4 costChoose one: K.O. an opponent's Character with a cost of 5 or less, or deal 1 damage to an opponent who has 1 Life card. Then you add a Life card to your hand.

Bandai also bans pairs of cards that are fine apart and too strong together. Monkey.D.Luffy (OP11-040) cannot share a deck with Charlotte Katakuri (OP11-067) or Charlotte Linlin (OP08-069), and I Re-Quasar Helllp!! (OP07-115) cannot share one with Borsalino (EB04-058). The common thread is a lot of value from one card: extra DON!!, extra Characters, or a reset of the opponent's hand.

How to judge a card yourself

Measure a card against the curve. Across the standard printings of every Character in TCGplayer's catalog, the most common power at each cost follows a simple line: 1000 more than the cost in thousands, up to cost 7.

CostMost common powerNext most common
120001000
230002000
340005000
450006000
560007000
670008000
780007000
101200010000

A card on the line with no effect is filler. A good card gives you more than the line: more power for its cost, an effect that replaces itself such as drawing a card, an effect that removes an opposing Character, or [Blocker] to protect your Leader. Counter value matters as well. Of the Characters with a counter, 1,285 have +1000 and 350 have +2000, so a +2000 counter on a card that is also good to play makes it useful in both roles.

Then check it against your Leader. A card that is average on its own can be one of the best in a deck whose Leader rewards its type or cost. One Piece Leader cards covers reading a Leader, and how to build a One Piece deck covers putting the 50 cards together.

Bandai's own "The Best"

Bandai has twice reprinted the cards it considers most popular. PRB-01, Premium Booster -ONE PIECE CARD THE BEST- (November 8, 2024), describes itself as "a selection of the most popular cards from the past". PRB-02, THE BEST vol.2 (October 3, 2025), does the same and guarantees at least one Super Rare or higher in every pack.

BoosterSecret Rares reprinted
PRB-01Shanks (OP01‑120), Yamato (OP01‑121), Kuzan (OP02‑121), Charlotte Katakuri (OP03‑123), Kaido (OP05‑118), Monkey.D.Luffy (OP05‑119)
PRB-02Mr.2.Bon.Kurei(Bentham) (EB01‑061), Monkey.D.Luffy (EB02‑061), Roronoa Zoro (OP06‑118), Sanji (OP06‑119), Sabo (OP07‑118), Portgas.D.Ace (OP07‑119), Silvers Rayleigh (OP08‑118), Trafalgar Law (OP10‑119)

Popular isn't the same as strongest. But a reprint in a Premium Booster tells you Bandai counted the card among the most popular, and it makes the card cheaper and easier to find. The standard PRB-01 reprint of Luffy (OP05-119) was $10.80 on October 2, 2026.

The best cards to start with

For a new player, the best cards are the ones in a starter deck for a Leader you like, because they already work together. Bandai's 2026 starter decks ST-31 to ST-36 (July 31, 2026) cover all six colors, led by Monkey.D.Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Kuzan, Charlotte Katakuri, Sabo and Eustass"Captain"Kid. From there, upgrade one card at a time with what your Leader's effect asks for. How to play the One Piece Card Game covers the rules first.

The best cards to collect

For collectors, the best cards are the scarcest printings of the most popular characters. On October 2, 2026 the most valuable English printing was the Gold SP Monkey.D.Luffy (OP05-119) at $13,000.00, and every card in the top 20 was a special printing: SP, Manga, Super Alternate Art or a tournament prize. Luffy, the Straw Hats, the Emperors and Boa Hancock fill most of those places.

The most expensive One Piece cards list ranks the top 20. Manga cards, rare cards and promo cards each have their own guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best One Piece card?

It depends on your Leader, because every card in your deck must share a color with it. The clearest evidence of raw strength is Bandai's ban list: Dracule Mihawk (OP14-020), Charlotte Pudding (OP06-047), Nami (OP03-040), Gecko Moria (OP06-086), Trafalgar Law (ST10-001) and Reject (OP06-116) were all banned for what they did to the game. For collectors, the most wanted card is the Gold SP Monkey.D.Luffy (OP05-119).

Why does Bandai ban One Piece cards?

To keep many Leaders playable. Bandai says it weighs a deck's win rate, results at major tournaments, how often it is played, its likely effect on future play and whether it stops other Leaders from being viable. It usually revises the list after Japan's Championship Season 1 and after the World Championship, and can act sooner if a card is a problem.

How do I tell if a One Piece card is good?

Compare its power and effect to its cost. Most Characters have 1000 more power than their cost in thousands up to cost 7, such as a 4-cost with 5000 power. A card that beats that line, adds an effect worth a card such as drawing or a K.O., or has a 2000 counter, is above the curve.

What are the best One Piece cards for beginners?

The ones in a starter deck for the Leader you like, because they already work together. Upgrade from there with the cards your Leader's effect asks for. The PRB-01 and PRB-02 Premium Boosters reprint many popular cards from older sets, which makes them easier to find.

Are banned One Piece cards worth anything?

Often, yes, because collectors still want the art. The Alternate Art of the banned Nami Leader (OP03-040) sold for $254.94 on October 2, 2026, and the SP Charlotte Pudding (OP06-047) for $91.84.
