ST-16 Green Uta

ST-16 is a green FILM deck led by Uta, who finds a FILM card each time she attacks. The deck rests your opponent's Characters, keeps them rested and then K.O.s them, and this guide covers how that works and what to add.

Overview

Release date October 25, 2024
Colors Green
Leader Uta
Different cards 15, plus 10 DON!!
Standard Partly rotated

ST-16 is a mono-green deck with the ST11-001 Uta Leader, reprinted from the earlier ST-11 Uta deck. Almost everything in the box has the FILM type, and the Leader rewards that: with one DON!! attached, the first time she attacks each turn you reveal your top card and add it to your hand if it is a FILM card.

The deck's 15 different cards lean on Events. Backlight rests or K.O.s a Character, Fleeting Lullaby keeps two rested Characters from untapping, Tot Musica rests two of your opponent's DON!!, and New Genesis finds another FILM card. The Characters are few: a Blocker Uta, Gordon, Charlotte Katakuri, two Monkey.D.Luffy cards and the 9-cost Shanks.

It suits a player who likes control more than racing. The deck asks you to track which of your opponent's Characters are rested, which is how many green decks in the One Piece Card Game play.

The Uta Leader and every card but one are legal in Standard; Bartolomeo (P-029) is a block 1 card that left Standard on April 1, 2026.

Ratings

Strength as sold 2/5

Backlight and Shanks give the deck real ways to rest and K.O. Characters, but the box has only a handful of Characters and many Events with no counter value, so it struggles to defend. Bartolomeo is rotated, which leaves one more slot to fill.

Upgraded ceiling 3/5

OP13's FILM Straw Hat Crew Characters add bodies that set your DON!! active again, and cards like OP14-031 Nami and EB03-061 Uta add the rest control the box lacks. The Leader's draw is still a coin flip on the top card, which keeps the ceiling at a solid casual deck.

Difficulty to play 3/5

You have to plan which opposing Characters to rest, when to spend DON!! on Events, and how many FILM cards to keep for Uta's and Gordon's costs. None of it is complicated, but several cards only work if you set them up a turn ahead.

These are TurnZero HQ's own read of the cards, not tournament results or an official Bandai rating. How we rate starter decks →

How it plays

Early turns are about setting up. Attack with Uta when you can attach a DON!!, because her reveal is your main source of extra cards. New Genesis digs 3 cards deep for a FILM card and sets a DON!! active, which makes it close to free.

In the middle turns you use Backlight to rest a cost 5 or less Character and Fleeting Lullaby to keep up to two rested cost 4 or less Characters from becoming active in your opponent's next Refresh Phase. That locks attackers out of a turn and leaves them rested for Backlight's K.O. mode. Charlotte Katakuri becomes a 6000-power 3-cost once you have 6 or more rested cards, and rested DON!! count.

The finisher is the 9-cost Shanks, an 11000-power Character that K.O.s one of your opponent's rested Characters when it is played. The 8-cost Monkey.D.Luffy is a 10000-power body with a 1000 counter for the same turns.

Tips for your first games

  • Attach the DON!! to Uta before she attacks; her reveal only works with one DON!! attached, and only once per turn.
  • Backlight's K.O. mode only hits rested Characters, so anything your opponent attacked with is already a target; use the rest mode on a Character that stayed back, then K.O. it with Shanks or a second Backlight that turn.
  • Fleeting Lullaby works on Characters that are already rested, so play it after your opponent attacks with them or after Backlight rests them.
  • The ST16 Uta Character can trash a FILM card from your hand to give a rested DON!! to your Leader, which helps Uta attack with her DON!! on a tight turn.
  • Gordon is a 2-cost Blocker that can trash Music cards from hand for +1000 each during your opponent's attack, so keep a spare Music Event when you expect a big swing.

Upgrade guide

Every upgrade below is legal in Standard and shares a color with the Leader. Prices are each card's base printing on TCGplayer on October 10, 2026; open a card for today's price.

Budget: more FILM Characters that untap your DON!!

The box is short on Characters, so it has few bodies to block or counter with. These budget FILM Characters fill that gap, and most of them set DON!! active when they enter or at the end of your turn, which pays back the cost of the deck's Events. They replace Bartolomeo, I'm invincible and Tot Musica.

Rest control and defense

The box rests Characters one at a time with Backlight. These cards rest more at once, rest your opponent's DON!!, or punish a K.O., so Shanks and Backlight have more rested targets. Nami and the 7-cost Uta cost more than the budget list, and the trade is a few slots of the box's counter-free Events.

What to cut first

Bandai's list doesn't say how many copies of each card the deck has, so cut by card: take out every copy of these before anything else, and keep the deck at exactly 50.

Every card in ST-16

Bandai's card list for ST-16 has 15 different cards. 1 of them carry a block 1 icon or are banned, so they can't be played in Standard; they are still legal in Extra Regulation unless banned. Legality follows Bandai's block icons and its banned list effective October 12, 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ST-16 good?

ST-16 has a clear control plan and good Events in Backlight and Fleeting Lullaby, but it has few Characters and little counter value as sold. A handful of cheap FILM Characters fixes most of that.

Is ST-16 legal in Standard?

Mostly. The Uta Leader and every card except Bartolomeo (P-029) are legal in Standard; Bartolomeo left Standard on April 1, 2026.

What should I upgrade first in ST-16?

Replace Bartolomeo first, then add FILM Characters like OP13-037 Roronoa Zoro and OP13-027 Sanji, which give the deck bodies and set DON!! active for its Events.

Is ST-16 good for beginners?

It is a reasonable first green deck, though it teaches control rather than attacking. Expect to lose a few games while you learn when to rest a Character and when to K.O. it.
