ST-32 GREEN Roronoa Zoro

Overview

ST-32 GREEN Roronoa Zoro is a mono-green deck built on the <Slash> attribute. Its Leader is a reprint of OP12-020 Roronoa Zoro: 5000 power and 5 Life. With 3 DON!! attached, once per turn, if the Leader has battled one of your opponent's Characters this turn, you can set it active. After that it can't attack Characters with a base cost of 7 or less that turn, so its second attack usually goes at your opponent's Leader.

The deck's 15 different cards support that pattern. Tashigi (OP12-031) and Kuina (OP12-026) rest an opposing Character and give your Leader 3 rested DON!! in one effect, Silvers Rayleigh (ST32-004) rests two cost 2 or less Characters, and Ryuma (OP15-036) K.O.s a rested cost 4 or less on play and when attacking. Kouzuki Hiyori searches for <Slash> cards and green Events, and Dracule Mihawk (ST32-003) puts a second <Slash> Character into play for free.

It suits a player who likes controlling the board and planning a turn in order. The Leader's text is simple once you've seen it work, but it takes a few games to sequence well.

How it plays

Early, set up your hand and board. Kin'emon (ST32-001) draws 2 and trashes 1 by resting a DON!! or your <Slash> Leader, Kouzuki Hiyori looks at 5 cards for a <Slash> card or green Event, and Roronoa Zoro (ST32-005) can attack Characters the turn it lands and rests a cost 2 or less on play.

From 4 or 5 DON!!, start the Leader's two-attack turns. Play Tashigi or use Kuina to rest a Character and put 3 rested DON!! on the Leader, attack that rested Character with the Leader, then activate the Leader to set it active and attack your opponent's Leader. The DON!! from Tashigi and Kuina also raise the Leader to 8000 power for both attacks.

Late, Dracule Mihawk plays a <Slash> Character with a cost of 5 or less, or Perona, from your hand on play, and Kouzuki Oden (ST32-002) draws and keeps a base cost 6 or less opposing Character from being rested until the end of your opponent's next End Phase, so it can't attack or block. Ryuma clears rested blockers while the Leader keeps pressure on.

Tips for your first games

• Rest an opposing Character before the Leader attacks, so the Leader battles a rested Character it can K.O. instead of a Leader at full power.
• Use Kuina after paying for your other cards: she gives the Leader up to 3 DON!! you already rested, which is all its effect needs.
• Activate the Leader's effect right after the battle with a Character, before ending your Main Phase, or the chance is gone for the turn.
• Play Silvers Rayleigh when your opponent has small Characters; with your <Slash> Leader it also gains [Rush: Character] and can attack one of them right away.
• Remember the Leader can't attack Characters with a base cost of 7 or less after it sets itself active, so plan its second attack at the opposing Leader.

Budget Leader DON!! and blockers

The Leader's effect needs 3 DON!! attached, and the box has only two cards that move DON!! to it. EB03-014 Kuina gives 2 rested DON!! to a <Slash> Leader for 2 cost, Gyukimaru rests a base cost 6 or less when attacking with 3 given DON!!, and OP13-037 Roronoa Zoro sets 2 DON!! active because your Leader has the Straw Hat Crew type. Helmeppo adds a [Blocker] that rests a cost 5 or less Character when it blocks. Every card here is budget-priced and takes the slots of Kawamatsu and Koushirou.

Green Events for rested Characters

Kouzuki Hiyori and Perona search for green Events, and the box has only one. These Events either rest a Character for the Leader to attack or K.O. Characters you've already rested, and the Zoro Events double as +3000 Leader counters. Two-Sword Style Rashomon and Demon Aura Nine Sword Style Asura Blades Drawn Dead Man's Game cost more than the rest; For Fun, Gum-Gum Snake Shot and Gum-Gum Elephant Gatling are budget.

Slash search and protection

The pricier step makes the deck more consistent and harder to break up. OP12-034 Perona searches the top 5 for a <Slash> card or green Event, and Dracule Mihawk can play her from hand. OP12-036 Roronoa Zoro gains +1000 and can't be K.O.'d in battle by <Slash> cards with your <Slash> Leader, though it can't be played by effects, so Mihawk can't put it out. PRB02-006 Zoro is a 2000-counter [Blocker], and Shimotsuki Kouzaburou clears a small Character on play. Perona is the expensive card in this guide.

What to cut first

Bandai's list doesn't say how many copies of each card the deck has, so cut by card: take out every copy of these before anything else, and keep the deck at exactly 50.
