Kid lets a Supernovas Character attack on your turn and still guard on your opponent's, paid for by turning a Life card face-up. Here is how it plays and what it needs.

ST-36 is a mono-yellow Supernovas deck led by Eustass"Captain"Kid. At the end of your turn, you may turn the top card of your Life face-up. If you do, one of your Supernovas Characters with cost 3 to 8 becomes active and gains Blocker until the end of your opponent's next turn. Your best attacker swings, then stands back up to guard.

Turning Life face-up has a cost: your opponent can see that card. The box includes ways to work with your Life. The Eustass"Captain"Kid Character turns a Life card face-down to redirect an attack to itself, Killer adds a card to your Life under a Kid Pirates Leader, and Cavendish adds one when it is K.O.'d.

The deck suits a player who wants to learn yellow's Life tools. It is not a forgiving first deck, because the box gives you few ways to remove your opponent's Characters.

Every card in ST-36 is legal in Standard, including the OP10, OP12 and OP13 reprints and the P-085 and P-088 promos.

Ratings

Strength as sold 2/5

The Leader's untap is useful, but the box has almost no removal: Jewelry Bonney needs you at equal or fewer Life than your opponent, and X.Drake only rests a Character. Several mid-cost Characters, such as Urouge and Scratchmen Apoo, have no effect when played.

Upgraded ceiling 4/5

Standard's Supernovas and Kid Pirates pool adds the removal the box lacks, such as Damned Punk and Black Rope Dragon Twister, and better cost-3-to-8 bodies for the Leader to ready.

Difficulty to play 4/5

You manage face-up and face-down Life, choose which Character to ready each turn, and time Life-to-hand effects like Capone"Gang"Bege. Life handling takes practice for newer players.

How it plays

Early, play Monkey.D.Luffy or The One Who Is the Most Free Is the Pirate King!!! to find Supernovas Characters, and Bartolomeo to trade a Supernovas card for two draws. Capone"Gang"Bege can take a Life card into your hand and put a Supernovas Character from hand on top of your Life face-up.

From turn three or four, play Characters in the cost 3 to 8 range and attack with them. At the end of each turn, use the Leader to ready the strongest one as a Blocker. Killer at four adds a Life card on your turn, and Jewelry Bonney at five puts an opposing Character with cost 4 or less into their Life once you are at equal or fewer Life than your opponent.

Late, the Eustass"Captain"Kid Character pulls attacks onto itself and can give the Leader a rested DON!!. Roronoa Zoro plays a cost-4 Supernovas Character rested when it is K.O.'d, and Trafalgar Law and Scratchmen Apoo give you value when your Life cards reveal them as Triggers.

Tips for your first games

  • Ready the Character your opponent most wants to attack, not the one with the most power.
  • Use the Eustass"Captain"Kid Character's face-down effect on a face-up Life card to hide what the Leader showed.
  • Bonney's removal checks Life when it is played, so play it after your opponent has dealt you damage.
  • Count Killer's Trigger: it only plays itself when your opponent has 3 or less Life.

Upgrade guide

Every upgrade below is legal in Standard and shares a color with the Leader. Prices are each card's base printing on TCGplayer on October 10, 2026; open a card for today's price.

Budget: better Supernovas bodies for the Leader to ready

The Leader readies a Supernovas Character with cost 3 to 8, so every Character in that range should be worth readying. These cheap upgrades are bigger or more useful than Urouge and Scratchmen Apoo. The OP10 Killer searches when K.O.'d, Caribou cannot be K.O.'d in battle while your opponent has 3 or more Life, and the OP10 Cavendish and OP17 Capone"Gang"Bege give the deck 8000-power Blockers once the Leader readies them.

CardNumberPrice, October 10, 2026
Killer OP10-106$0.74
Caribou OP10-104$0.57
Cavendish OP10-105$0.70
Capone"Gang"Bege OP17-100$0.65
Eustass"Captain"Kid OP10-112$1.13

Add the removal the box is missing

Removal is the box's biggest gap. Damned Punk K.O.s a Character with cost 5 or less, Black Rope Dragon Twister K.O.s two when you have fewer Characters, and the OP17 Caribou gives −3000 each turn for a Life card. Slam Gibson and Let's Meet Again in the New World double as counters, so they replace weak bodies without costing defense.

CardNumberPrice, October 10, 2026
Damned Punk OP10-116$0.17
Black Rope Dragon Twister EB04-059$0.29
Caribou OP17-101$1.23
Slam Gibson OP12-117$0.11
Let's Meet Again in the New World OP10-115$0.70

Protect your Characters with Life

These cards turn your Life into protection for the Characters the Leader readies. The OP11 Capone"Gang"Bege moves a Supernovas Character into your Life instead of letting removal take it, and the OP13 Jewelry Bonney turns a Life card face-up instead of leaving. The OP15 Urouge turns a Life card face-down, which undoes the Leader's flip, and Trafalgar Law is a 7000 Blocker the Leader can ready. These are a little pricier, so add them after the budget path.

CardNumberPrice, October 10, 2026
Capone"Gang"Bege OP11-101$0.47
Jewelry Bonney OP13-109$2.32
Urouge OP15-099$2.36
Trafalgar Law OP12-106$7.47

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ST-36 good?

As sold, ST-36 struggles because it has very little removal. The Leader's attack-then-block effect is useful, and adding cards like Damned Punk improves the deck a lot.

Is ST-36 legal in Standard?

Yes. Every card in ST-36, including the OP10-099 Eustass"Captain"Kid Leader, is legal in Standard.

What should I upgrade first in ST-36?

Add removal first: Damned Punk and Black Rope Dragon Twister. Cut Urouge and Scratchmen Apoo to make room.

Is ST-36 good for beginners?

Not as a first deck. It teaches yellow's Life management, which asks more of a new player than attacking with large Characters.
