Pokémon TCG · 2023 Set Guide
The Charizard set. Its Charizard ex is a Darkness-type Tera Pokémon, it has more Pokémon ex than any other 2023 set, and Charizard ex takes three of the top five places in its chase list.
Obsidian Flames is the third main expansion of Scarlet & Violet. Its headline is Charizard ex as a Tera Pokémon of the Darkness type, a Fire Pokémon that attacks as a Darkness one.
It prints 21 Pokémon ex at Double Rare, more than any other 2023 set, and 13 Tera Pokémon in all.
Obsidian Flames has 230 cards. Every card shows its number over the printed total along the bottom, as in "001/197", next to the set code OBF.
The printed total is 197, so the 33 cards from 198 to 230 are secret rares. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts a set against its printed total and keeps the secret rares apart, so finishing the main set and chasing the cards above it read as two separate goals. How set completion works →
The Pokémon ex to know first, each giving up two Prize cards when Knocked Out:

These are each card's headline TCGplayer market price on October 1, 2026. Prices can move a long way, most of all in a set's first months, so treat them as a snapshot. Each card's page shows today's price for every variant and its 90-day chart. How Pokémon card prices work →
One copy of every card in Obsidian Flames, bought as singles, cost $443.98 on October 1, 2026. That is the least expensive of the six sets released in 2023.
The three most valuable cards, Charizard ex, Cleffa and Ninetales, come to $169.85, or 38% of the total. Without them the set costs $274.13. Of the 230 cards, 205 were under $2.00, together $62.06; the other 25 add up to $381.92.
Each card is counted at its cheapest priced variant, a Normal copy rather than a Reverse Holofoil where both exist, at its TCGplayer market price. This is what it costs to buy the set as singles. It is not what opening packs returns, and not what a complete set would sell for, which after fees and the many cards worth cents would be noticeably less.
Every Obsidian Flames card carries the G regulation mark, which left Standard on April 10, 2026, so the set is no longer Standard-legal as printed. It is legal in Expanded.
A reprint with a legal mark makes older printings of the same card legal again, so check a card's name before you rule it out.
August 11, 2023. Its set code is OBF.
230. The printed total is 197, and the 33 cards numbered above it are secret rares.
It is a Tera Pokémon, shown in its Terastallized form, and Tera Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet can be a different type from the usual one. This Charizard ex is Darkness, so it uses Darkness Weakness and Resistance and Darkness support cards.
The Charizard ex Special Illustration Rare (223/197), at $98.90 on October 1, 2026. Prices move daily, so check each card's page for the current figure.
