Frequently Asked Questions

What do the power and difficulty ratings mean?

They are TurnZero HQ's own editorial read, on the same 1 to 5 scale our Commander precon directory uses. The Pokémon Company does not rate its decks. Power is how the deck plays straight out of the box: 1 is a learn-to-play deck, 3 holds its own against other precons and casual League decks, and 5 could go to a League Challenge unchanged. Difficulty is how much the deck asks of the person playing it. Each deck's tile gives the reason for its two numbers.

How is the list ordered by popularity?

It is an estimate. Nobody publishes sales or search figures for sealed decks, so the order comes from the signals we can see: how far preorders sell above the suggested price on TCGplayer, retailer best-seller tags, and how prominent the deck's main Pokémon is in tournaments and with collectors. It was last set on October 10, 2026. Sort by power, ease or release date if you would rather.

What is the difference between a League Battle Deck and an ex Battle Deck?

A League Battle Deck is a copy of a real competitive deck: 60 cards built around one archetype, usually with multiple copies of the main Pokémon ex and the Trainer cards a tournament list would play. An ex Battle Deck (and the newer Battle Decks) is a lower-priced deck built around a single Pokémon ex, meant for learning and for playing against another precon. Battle Academy is a box of three small decks and a game board, made to teach the game.

Are these decks legal in Standard?

It depends on the deck. Standard allows cards with the regulation mark H, I or J after the April 10, 2026 rotation. Decks from 2023 and 2024 are built mostly from G-mark cards and are no longer Standard legal as printed, though they still play in Expanded and at the kitchen table. Each upgrade guide says where its deck stands and, where it matters, how to update it.

Why is there no price on each deck?

We do not have a live feed of sealed product prices, only of single cards. Each deck lists its suggested retail price where one was announced and links to a live TCGplayer search, where the price you see is the current one.

Upgrade the deck, then see what you're missing.
